one-point race. That's right, only one percent of the vote stands
between Jane and a daunting process that in the real world just

* Try to find the courthouse (while skipping school).
* Wait in line to tell the court clerk that you're pregnant and
need an abortion waiver.
* Fill out forms with intimate, detailed information on why you
want an abortion and why you can't tell your parents.
* Explain all of this again, in excruciating detail, to your
court-appointed lawyer
* Return days later to the courthouse for a hearing.
* Appear personally in front of a judge and convince him by
presenting "clear and convincing evidence" that you are
mature enough to make the decision or that an abortion without
parental notification is in your best interest (you carry the
burden of proof). Keep in mind, there is no definition of
maturity or best interest in the initiative - leaving the
decision entirely to the subjectivity of judges - some of whom
may have personal beliefs against choice.

Jane doesn't need a judge, she needs a counselor and quality medical
care from caring doctors and nurses.

Imagine yourself in Jane's shoes. Would you be able to navigate this
confusing judicial maze? Can you imagine having to go to court as a
teenager, explaining to a judge you have never met before (and the
clerk and a court reporter and a lawyer) the intimate details of your
life and why you need to end your pregnancy?

What about those desperate teens who can't figure their way out of
this judicial maze? What will they do? It's no wonder that in states
with parental notification laws teens delay access to medical care,
have more second-term abortions, go across state lines and resort to
illegal or self-induced abortions, resulting in serious injury or even
death.
