Against Breast Cancer: Topless Men and Women Fund Raise on Sproul in the Rain
Against Breast Cancer: Topless Men and Women Fund Raise on Sproul in the Rain.
Today, November 2, 2006, a group wearing nothing above the waist but name tags covering their nipples danced, sang and jumped around Sproul Plaza at Sather Gate calling out for donations in support of Breast Cancer Research. Adding comment to their convictions' strength, the semi-nude outreach crew endured a cold rain to make their point and collect their funds.
This reporter asked whether they had considered promoting prevention rather than breast cancer research. One of the outreachers advised that in fact, a portion of the funds would go to direct services screening for low income women "in a very cost effective way."
The group claimed to be unable to identify by name the organization for which they were campaigning. (This reporter has heard that prevention is much more effective than treatments, and the cancer research industry as a whole is often criticized.)
All health power to the people.
