Window Busted at Mexican Consulate In Sacramento

by downtown worker
one of the front windows is busted at the mexican consulate at 8th and J in sacramento.
I was just walking around on my lunch break downtown, and saw the one of the windows at the only mexican government building in Sacramento is busted out. There is a fist or baseball sized hole right at chest level near the main entrance and its taped off with yellow caution tape. It might just be a coincidence, but it seems like a broken plate glass window right on the front of the Mexican Consulate in the heart of downtown Sacramento probably has something to do with what is going on in Oaxaca. Looks like they got off easy this time.

If someone wants to post a photo before they repair it, that would be awesome. This kind of thing is RARE in Sacramento. Maybe people are finally reaching their tipping point. The people of the world can only be fucked with for so long before they start fighting back.

Solidarity knows no borders.

Embassies and consulates are valid places to PROTEST.

However they are supposed to be immune to any sort of attack. I know it's a strange concept to some of you, but the idea is that this is a place where you talk EVEN WITH ENEMIES.

Unless a MEXICAN student, tourist, or "guest worker" threw that stone or ball (taking an action against THEIR OWN country) that was a "no-no"

Yes, some of you probably don't agree. But I bet you would bitch mightily if when you came out to negotiate under a "truce flag" you were gunned down. In other words, there are good reasons for these "silly" conventions about "immunity".

Why does it matter if the person who broke the window is a citizen of Mexico or of the US? And youre right that people will 'bitch' about your claim that government buildings (be them embassies, consulates, or whatever) should be immune, because thats BULLSHIT. Governments will be held accountable for their actions. Fighting back should not be restricted to the confines of borders and should not be restricted to only those directly affected. That is the power of solidarity. Governments fuck people over all the time. And its about fucking time people started expressing their anger.

one more thing.
this isnt isolated. consulates are being occupied, stormed, trashed, and protested all over the world.
see:
http://nyc.indymedia.org/or/2006/10/78037.html for a list of scheduled protests.

and also check out:
news.infoshop.org for reportbacks from a bunch of protests at consulates.

I don't mind if Mexicans trash American embassies and consulates for restricting immigration. All power to them. I also don't care if Americans trash Mexican consulates or embassies. The only time I think it should be looked down upon is when someone is hypocritical enough to expect their county's outposts to remain safe while not offering the same to other countries' buildings. All governments have blood on their hands and I for one am glad that someone had the guts to do this. I was considering it myself but decided against it for various reasons. I don't cry when a government building is damaged regardless of the government. I rejoice when American recruiting centers are burned and I laugh when Mexican consulates have their widows smashed. Solidarity with all oppressed people, regardless of which government is oppressing them. As mentioned in the article, it is refreshing to see this kind of action here in Sacramento.

Well, comparing a human life being taken by police/military guns to a broken piece of glass at the Mexican Consulate is telling of a fallacy of logic. Remember, NO human being or animal was killed or even slightly injured during this glass breaking act. On the other hand, the police/military incursions into Oaxaca resulted in lost lives and serious physical injuries to Oaxacan civilians. Comparing apples to oranges comes to mind, hell even comparing apples to rocks is more accurate, as glass isn't even alive!!

Whomever broke the glass of the Mexican embassy has that right when the Mexican police are acting in an illegally fascist manner. Police brutality of this sort deserves a response by any means neccesary. How interesting that Mike is angrier at the damage to a non-living glass window when actual human beings in Oaxaca are both dying and being seriously injured by police state thugs..

Even if the window breaker were a German, Nigerian or Mongolian tourist visiting the US, they could justify breaking the window of the Mexican consulate based upon the murderous acts taken by the Mexican military police against the people of Oaxaca!!

No justice, No Peace!!

No Fascist Police!!

Oaxaca is in a state of red alert!! To save human lives from police onslaught, direct action is needed in the US also!!

The Mexican Cosulate is as corrupt as the government in Mexico. It would be nice if the Mexicanos who are here legally would stand up for themselves and stop shelling out the obscene amount of money for these stupid useless id cards that the consulate (representatives of Mexico) decide to change every few months.
