Fake News and Payola is the Topic on McChesney's Media Matters This Week
Today's guests on Bob McChesney's radio program about the media will be Dianne Farsetti,an expert on Video News Releases (VNRs), and Paul Porter, an expert on how "payola" (bribery of an influential person in exchange for the promotion of a product or service) drives the music industry.
Media Matters is a weekly program hosted by media professor Bob McChesney. The show usually takes comments and questions during the broadcast at 1-800-222-9455. Streaming and downloadable archives of past programs are available at the Media Matters website.
“The media are central to all our lives,” McChesney says. “Yet the media are the most frequently misunderstood parts of our lives. We want to help people understand the role of media in society.”
Media Matters is normally a live program which originates from WILL-AM, the broadcasting service of the University of Illinois. A live audio stream of the program can be heard on the internet at 11 am Pacific Time.
Today's guests will be Dianne Farsetti, The Center for Media and Democracy's Senior Researcher, and Paul Porter, a collaborator behind Industry Ears, A New Generation Think Tank Dedicated to Promoting Justice In Media.
