SF Chronicle reminded of its negligence and complicity in Iraq massacre.

by Jonathan Shockley
I suspect the SF Chronicle's refusal to put the number of dead Iraqis on its front page has prompted an activist to vandalize the front entrance.

I suspect the SF Chronicle's refusal to put the number of dead Iraqis on its front page has prompted an activist to vandalize the front entrance. The Chronicle's complicity in the Iraq war is evident to anyone who reads it and who is familiar with the "liberal" corporate media. The downplaying of the John Hopkins study is therefore not surprising. Last Wednesday, the Chronicle had a front page article about baseball, not about the the John Hopkins study. There is no doubt that a front page lede saying something like "655,000 Iraqis Dead, says Study" would have been very appropriate. If John Hopkins had done a study like that about say, deaths in Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion, (or about deaths in any "official enemy" state), it would have been on the front page, and no credibility would have been given to the "experts" saying the study wasn't credible. The crimes for which they share responsibility have to be downplayed.
