Demanding the Salvadoran Government Investigate the Resurgence of Death Squads
Members of the Committee in Solidarity with the people of El Salvador, Salvadoran community members, other organizations, and individuals will hold a press conference outside the Salvadoran Consulate on Tuesday, October 17th, 2006 at 11:00am.
CISPES has invited the Consul General José Rafael Antonio Carballo Iacayo and Vice Consuls Ana María de Canizalez and Luis Roberto Castellanos to provide updates on the status of the Salvadoran Attorney General Office’s investigations into the execution-styled murders of four social movement leaders and one catholic priest in the past 3 months.
El Salvador’s Human Rights Ombudswoman, Beatrice de Carillo, has denounced the re-formation of extermination groups inside the National Civilian Police. The Salvadoran Attorney General has made no serious effort to investigate these crimes.

We demand that the Salvadoran Attorney General’s Office immediately begin investigations into the murders of the Manzanares’, whose bodies were found executed in their home on July 1st; the Montoyas, who were found executed on the highway on their way to Coatepeque early in the morning on August 22nd; and Father Ricardo Antonio Romero, a catholic priest who was found murdered on the highway to Acajutla on September 25th.
WHEN: 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 17th 2006.
