FREEDOM FOR PEDRO GARCÏA!

From the Cerezo Committee in Oaxaca:
http://www.comitecerezo.org

The strategy of the State has made itself obvious yet again in Oaxaca, attacking us with the intent of taking away our inalienable right to organize ourselves. Today they have violated the basic individual rights of dissidents, as we are informed of the sequestering and “disappearing” of our comrade Pedro García, a student at Benito Juarez University in Oaxaca (UABJO) and an activist with the Union of Revolutionary Youth of Mexico (UJRM)

Those who knew Pedro, a music student, cry out against this violation against our rights, which are guaranteed in our own Mexican Constitution. A group of “unknown persons” have taken his freedom, and we don’t know what they have done with him. As human rights observers, along with other organizations, we have begun to look for him in different prisons and penitentiaries.

As human rights observers, we raise concerns for the physical well being of our student comrade Pedro García, and we demand his return, alive.

We are aware that this strategy is being used to silence the voices of the student community. We should all remember that in 2001, students at UNAM University were also detained and tortured. We remember the Alejandro brothers (free since March of 2005, fully exonerated of all their supposed “crimes”), as well as Héctor and Antonio Cerezo Contreras, unjustly imprisoned in Palma in Almoloya de Juarez, in the state of Mexico, still serving an unjust sentence of 7 years or more. We remember indigenous activist Pablo Alvarado Flores, who was serving an unjust sentence of 5 years or more and who is finally free as of August 13, 2006.

Today the Cerezo Committee in Oaxaca is deeply concerned for what is happening in Oaxaca and that the history of the Cerezo Contreras brothers may be repeated, in this political experiment, whose strategy is to violate the most basic human rights outlined in the many treaties signed by the State of Mexico.

The Cerezo Committee in Oaxaca, working along legal and nonviolent lines, deeply concerned by the disappearance of Pedro García, trusting in the political and social movements in Oaxaca, desires a peaceful solution, without these kinds of actions that are so detrimental to society.

We ask that the State vigilantly defend the rights of our comrade Pedro García, that he be returned alive, that his physical and mental well being be respected, and that his liberty be returned to him immediately.

Remembering our comrade Pedro García, we again demand Federal Amnesty for all political prisoners and prisoners of conscience.

FREEEDOM FOR PEDRO GARCÏA!

LIBERTY FOR HÉCTOR Y ANTONIO CEREZO CONTRERAS!

FEDERAL AMNESTY LAW NOW!

LIBERTY FOR ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS AND PRISONERS OF CONSCIENCE!

UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ARE NOT TERRORISTS,

IT IS NOT TERRORISM TO DEFEND HUMAN RIGHTS!

¡LIBERTAD A HÉCTOR Y ANTONIO CEREZO CONTRERAS!

LEY DE AMNISTÍA FEDERAL.

¡LIBERTAD A TODOS LOS PRESOS POLÍTICOS Y DE CONCIENCIA DEL PAÍS!
