The September 26 prisoners appeared in court today (Sept. 29) and the judge decided they should be held another three months during the investigation. Friends and family were in the courtroom and objected to the proceedings, leading the judge to clear the room. Outside, about 50 people demonstrated in solidarity, according to the corporate news, who also say somebody threw a water bottle at them after the hearing. The prisoners are charged with possession of incendiary devices, which now carries a potential sentence of three to 10 years in prison in Chile, as well as "illicit association" and theft of a flag belonging to the Condeferation of Armed Forces. There was some discussion of three of the prisoners' criminal records. Another companion, who was arrested during the street clashes of September 10 and charged with possessing a Molotov, is under investigation for a possible link to the "illicit association" the September 26 prisoners are accused of belonging to.
Yesterday (Sept. 28), information on the September 26 prisoners was distributed at a demonstration in Iquique, Chile, for the de-criminalization of abortion.
