The March in Memory of Mathew Johnson on 3rd Street a grand success

by Francisco Da Costa
The March in Memory of Mathew Johnson who was shot and killed by SFPD 40 years ago was a grand success. Hundreds marched down 3rd Street and the Nation of Islam provided Security. The people took control of this situation and the City and City Attorney Dennis Herrera was put on notice. We will not be moved. The 33,000 plus signatures gathered from constituents all over San Francisco and against the SF Redevelopment Agency - is the voice of the people. We will not be silenced. We will not be moved.
A small but very powerful people met and in a few days decided to have a March to bring to the attention of this RACIST City and Mayor Gavin Newsom that his days of dividing the people and ignoring " people power " is over.

People in the Bayview Hunters Point that are not sell outs will not bow down to City Hall!

Hundreds gathered by Williams Street and marched to Palou Street.

It was the 40th anniversary of the death of Mathew Johnson who was killed on September 27, 1966. Today, 40th years later the spirit of the people is still being put down by our Racist City.

Many thought it could not be done at very short notice.

Lead by Power, Acorn, Willie Ratcliff, Environmental Justice Advocacy, the Nation of Islam, the Branches of the Community Policing Relations Board all over the City, the core group - this demonstraction of good faith has put the sell outs on notice.

33,000 signatures were collected to send a very strong signal to the Racist Mayor Gavin Newsom, the Board of Supervisors that sided with SF Redevelopment Agency, those on the take like Sophie Maxwell - that the Bayview Hunters Point Community will not surrender their land and homes to the SF Redevelopment Agency with through Community Participation.

60 percent of folks in the Bayview Hunters Point own their homes. 60 percent in the rest of the City rent.

Angelo King from the BVHP Project Advisory Committee was at hand to witness the scene and the hundereds of people that gathered at very short notice. Some excellent and very articulate speakers set the tone that we would not be moved from our community.

The stage and sound system together with Nation of Islam Security had everything in place and this operation was well organized.

So be ware we are not gone - the sell outs be aware - we will be there long after the monies you take under the table has been spent.

The Media showed up and I hope the Main Press acknowledges that the people of Bayview Hunters Point are a force to be reckoned with.

This gathering was about "people power" and it was nice to see the people run the show.

The youth had a say during this event and this aspect is very important - to get the youth involved so that they can express themselves and more lead the future which is more theirs and less of the present cronies that are destroying San Francisco.

We will have more marches for sure.

We built of own stage and it worked out well. Thanks to Acorn, Power, the Nation of Islam, the SF Bayview Newspaper for an excellent event.

THE WHOLE EVENT WAS PEACEFUL AND NOT AN INCIDENT THAT WOULD TARNISH THE MEETING.

The message has been sent to City Hall and that Racist Mayor Gavin Newsom who is working hard to divide the people of Bayview Hunters Point - we will not be moved.
