Monday, September 25, 2006 5:30 PM --- 4 KSCO EMPLOYEES ARE BEING HOSED DOWN AS A PRECAUTION AFTER SOME WHITE POWDER WAS DISCOVERED IN MAIL ADDRESSED TO THE RADIO STATION. THE AREA AROUND THE STATION, INCLUDING THE PARKING LOT IN FRONT AND A SECTION OF PORTOLA DRIVE ARE BLOCKED OFF TO THE PUBLIC. CARS ARE BEING DETOURED AROUND THE AREA, AS HAZMAT INVESTIGATORS WAIT FOR IDENTIFICATION OF THE WHITE POWDER. IN THE EVENT IT PROVES TO BE ANTHRAX THE AREA COULD BE SEALED OFF INDEFINITELY. BUT OFFICERS ON THE SCENE SAY THE MOST LIKELY CONCLUSION TO THE AFTERNOON EVENT WILL BE A COMPLETE REOPENING OF THE AREA IN ABOUT HALF AN HOUR.

I would like to help hose down the KSCO employees, particularly the RADIO ANNOUNCERS. Please contact me if you need someone in the future to help out.
By the way, why is it always uptight, higher income people who find innocuous things and then call out the Hazmat squads? Not too long ago a bomb squad was called out to the alley behind Safeway in Aptos for a "suspicious package" which turned out to be a box of tiles!! How come you never hear about suspicious looking substances in the 'hood and folks being sprayed off down there?? Could it be the rich folks' own conscience panicking, feeling like they are due something bad? Are they just chicken shit, having watched too many made-for-tv movies? Or is it that the public safety people ignore the poor folks when they call in? I'd sure like to know.
