Christian Right has hijacked Air America Radio

by D. Grant Haynes
The same asinine Christian Right ad is appearing as the banner on Air America Radio's web page and on the web page featuring the petition calling for reinstatement of Mike Malloy on Air America Radio.

Now, it all becomes perfectly clear.

The Christian Right has apparently hijacked Air America Radio.

How could the management of a so-called progressive radio network be so blind? Regardless of how much money the the fundamentalists have for advertising, they will subvert all Air America programming.

The juxtaposition of the same asinine "know Jesus" ad on the Reinstate Mike Malloy petition and now on Air America's site is all the proof anyone could need of who is most likely behind Mike Malloy’s dismissal by Air America Radio on the eve of the midterm elections.

Progressives should redouble their efforts to boycott Air America Radio and bring her to her knees financially.

America needs Mike Malloy to speak the truth to power in the four weeks preceding the 2006 midterm elections. Fundamentalists have muzzled him. Are we going to permit this travesty to go unchallenged?

the banner is an ad for a documentry called Jesus Camp. The movie is important..showing Christians brainwashing kids and prepping them for jihad. Really scary stuff...the banner says nothing about the movie so it's easy to get the wrong impression. Malloy was ousted for speaking up about Israel and for that AirAmerica is off my radio.

Obviously, I haven’t seen “Jesus Camp” and it is possible that I have jumped the gun, as it were, in drawing my conclusions.

But I did read a number of reviews of “Jesus Camp” and most I encountered came to the same conclusion--that the Christian Right gets a lot of free publicity and positive propaganda from the film.

I quote a paragraph from Hollywood.com. which is typical of what I found.

“... Pastor Becky obviously allowed incredible access to the filmmakers for Jesus Camp, and maybe she’ll be pleased with the way the film will get her word out. But Jesus Camp seems more suited for TV than the big screen. The ideas presented are not even remotely balanced. Well-made feature film documentaries don’t have to be unbiased, but they should at least strive to address some opposite points of view. Air America radio host Mike Papantonio, who is a Methodist, gives the only contrary commentary about these camps, but he's rather namby-pamby about it all. Those who may expect more answers from Jesus Camp--on what would make people like Pastor Betty take these kids and coach them into becoming religiously intolerant and rigid thinkers--could be sorely disappointed.”

AS IT WERE (dork) I was sent to one of these camps as a child. I am, many many years later,
still trying to work the shit out with counseling and chiropractic -- expensive. Exposing this
lesion (also called "The Bible Belt") is important, imho.

Seth,

While I never had the misfortune of being exposed to one of the evangelical church doctrines as a child, I know these people well enough to be certain that what you in the enlightened Blue State West and North believe will "expose" the Christian Right will in fact encourage more "Jesus Camp" activity. They will not see "Jesus Camp" as an indictment. It will represent the best free advertising they've ever had.

Air America Radio filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on Friday, October 13! I don't know what's in a date, but maybe Jesus is a Mike Malloy fan.
