Alexander: Lower Gasoline Prices, Still No Bargains

by Stewart A. Alexander (stewartalexander4paf [at] comcast.net)
Within the past two months gasoline prices have been on a steady decline; in some areas of Southern California prices have dipped below $2.60 per gallon. Stewart Alexander, with the Peace and Freedom Party, admits the lower prices are good for consumers; however he says, “It is not good enough; we need to have gasoline prices below $2.25 per gallon to benefit commuters and truck drivers, and Proposition 87 is not the answer.”

Within the past two month Americans have seen a steady decline in gasoline prices and the lower prices have provided some level of relief; however Stewart Alexander with the Peace and Freedom Party says Americans are still being gouged at the pumps.

In some areas of Southern California prices at the pumps have dipped below $2.60 a gallon and the prices are still declining. Oil industry analysts are saying fuel prices may drop to $2.00 per gallon before the years end.

Today world crude oil supply levels are very high and production levels are surpassing consumer demands. Oil industry executives are crediting the lower prices to the favorable weather conditions in the Gulf of Mexico, the Alaskan pipeline damage not being as severe as previous projected, and the declining prices on world crude.

Stewart Alexander believes the decline in prices are the results of the political season; the November elections are just weeks away, and the anger voters were expressing during the early summer months when gasoline prices were over $3.35 for 87 octane.

California voters will be having to votes on a proposition on the November ballot, Proposition 87, which will impose a tax on gasoline. This proposition would establish a $4 billion program to reduce oil and gasoline usage by 25%, with research and production incentives for alternative energy, alternative energy vehicles, energy efficient technologies, and for education and training.
Alexander says, “This is only another tax and will do nothing to control rising gasoline prices.”

Alexander says, “What Proposition 87 is designed to accomplish is already available and any tax beyond the first $200 million will only benefit special interest groups. Proposition 87 will not prevent the oil giants from increasing prices at the pumps.”

Stewart Alexander believes his idea for a statewide program, and possibly a nationwide program, backed by consumers, will be the most effective means of controlling gasoline prices. The program that Alexander has proposed is the Friendly Petroleum Producers Program. “This program has been designed to enable consumers to identify the lowest prices for gasoline, 87 octane and diesel, keeping more money in their wallets. Proposition 87 will only take money out of our wallets,” says Alexander.

The goal of the Friendly Petroleum Producers Program is to bring lower prices to the pumps and to lower the price on two grades, 87 octane and diesel, at or below $2.25 per gallon; this will benefit daily commuters and truck drivers.

Alexander says, “We don’t need another tax to raise the cost on fuel, we just need lower gasoline prices. We are making the oil giants wealthier; Proposition 87 will only be more wealth for special interest groups.”
