SB Indy media designed for censorship.
It turns out the SB Indy Media is designed to allow censorship of articles rather than to encourage diversity of ideas. A case in point comes from the two recent articles on the Silent Rape Protest on State Street.
One article simply reported what the protest group wanted reported. The other was an investigative piece that delved into solutions to the rape problem that have been tried and proven over time. It also was the center point of an in-depth discussion of the issue.
The SB Indy Media site has been programmed to mirror a practice one finds on MoveOn.org's forum. A group of persons, perhaps 'progressives' who only want their messages to appear on the site, can eliminate articles posted by other reporters. All they have to do is get a few friends to visit the article and mark its rating 'negative', then the system will hide it.
This is surely no better than the Corporate media whose board of directors is allowed to silence stories that don't agree with their agendas.
We liberals believe that silencing of anyone's opinion or information is wrong. Let all ideas be expressed and weighed for their merits.
SB Indy Media has become a non-free-speech site. It turns out that it is a DEPENDENT media site. Dependent upon not contradicting the agendas of those with the power to crush dissent or honest discussion.
I am writing this on behalf of at least two utterly disgusted writers who advocate free speech and who stand against arrangements, like this one, that allow the crushing of free speech.
