Die In at the Ferry Building
On Saturday September 16th, more than 40 Bay Area activists staged a "die-in" at the Ferry Building in San Francisco to highlight US tax $$ used to fund the attacks on and killings of civilians in Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq. The "die-in" was also held to commemorate the anniversary of the 1982 Sabra and Shatila massacre in Lebanon.

The camp was set up in 1949, after Israel forced approximately 711,000 Palestinians to flee their homes the year before, creating the largest refugee population in the world. In 1982, Israel allowed militias to massacre thousands of refugees living in the camps. When will the massacres end?
Today, exactly 24 years later, the Israeli siege on Lebanon and Occupation of Palestine continue. Since 1948, the number of Palestinian refugees has climbed to over 4,600,000. These people have lost their homes, their livelihoods, and their safety.
Freedom and Occupation Cannot Co-Exist.
Today's die-in commemorates the 1982 massacre of Sabra and Shatila by demanding – from Israel, and from the U.S. - an end to war and an end to occupation.

Many of us eat it for our health
This excellent street theater should be front and center on the main page, not just on the anti-war page. This important news story was, of course, completely ignored by the local daily rag, and it is of major importance both in terms of relating the fact that it is our tax dollars at waste and connecting the Palestinian issue to the rest of the anti-war issues. Other venues should be done, such as Powell & Market and in the East Bay. It would also help to do it near high schools, just as school is letting out, especially in the workingclass areas, so the potential recruits for the US military can see the horrible results perpetrated by the US war machine. Literature offering alternatives to the military should be handed out, telling the students that it does not cost $20,000 or $40,000 to go to college, that community colleges are much cheaper for the first 2 years and state universities like SF State or Hayward State, etc., are sufficient for the last 2 years, and that doing restaurant work or anything other civilian labor is far more honorable and much safer than being a soldier, better known around the world as a paid, professional killer. Also, tell the women (and men) that being a military cop is utterly despicable and will not lead to a better life at all.

I've never shopped for organic food at the Ferry Building, but I do buy it in other places, and it's not 10x as much. Can you cite examples of organic being 10x as much as commercially-grown produce?
