The good news continues.

After months of tough negotiations, UNITEHERE! Local 483, the hotel workers Union in Monterey, came to a pending agreement with Global Hyatt Corporation on a new 4-year contract at 1 a.m. on September 14. The tentative pact, which awaits a union membership approval vote on Tuesday, averted a strike threat at the Hyatt Regency Monterey and Park Hyatt Carmel Highlands during this busy Monterey Jazz Festival weekend. The agreement would cover 485 Hyatt Corporation hotel workers.

The tentative agreement includes wage and benefit increases totaling over $5 per hour over the course of the 4-year contract. A $1 per hour wage increase for non-tipped workers proposed in the 4th year of the agreement would be the largest annual pay raise in Local 483 history.

Yesterday, nearly 300 workers at the Doubletree San Jose had the opporutunity to choose the Union. (80% of Doubletree workers say union yes!) Contrast this with our 3 year fight to organize the Parc-55, the 7 year fight to organize the Marriott, and 9 year fight to “re-organize” the Sir Francis Drake. This allows us to see that one victory leads to another. One day San Francisco settles, the next, workers in San Jose have a voice on the job.
