Give Peace a Vote
With elections coming up in just two months, it's time for us to turn this anti-war
sentiment into a powerful voter bloc. Let's take the message that Connecticut voters
sent to Joe Lieberman and send it all over the country: We will not vote for
candidates who support George Bush's lies and George Bush's war!

Dear CODEPINK Activist,
With a majority of Americans opposing the war in Iraq, George Bush is going around
the country desperately trying the sell his disastrous military adventure as part of
the war on terror. And while he might fool some of the people, most people are not
buying it. A CNN poll released on Wednesday found that the majority of Americans, 53
percent, didn't think the war in Iraq was part of the war on terror
(http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/nation/ny-uspoll074880337sep07,0,1106216.story?coll=ny-nationalnews-print).
Even more interesting was another survey conducted by Pew Research Center showing,
by 45 percent to 32 percent, that Americans were more likely to think the best way
to reduce the terror threat is to cut, not add, U.S. military presence overseas
(http://pewresearch.org/reports/?ReportID=45).
So today, we are launching an exciting new campaign: Give Peace a Vote, which is
part of a broad coalition called Voters for Peace. We want to keep Iraq on the front
burner during this election season, and put pro-war candidates on the hot seat. Give
Peace a Vote is a way to let candidates across this land know that we will not give
them our vote unless they commit to a swift end to this unjust war-and pledge to
oppose future unprovoked, illegal wars. (http://www.givepeaceavote.org/)
Please join us, along with Susan Sarandon, Alice Walker, Anne Lamott, Annie & Willie
Nelson, Jackson Browne, and other peacemakers, to make the Peace Vote a real force
to be reckoned with.
We've created a new website to make it easy and to track our progress. Click here to
pledge your Vote for Peace. And pass it on to your friends, relatives, coworkers for
them to sign. Let's put Peace at the top of the ballot in 2006!
Ultimately, we hope to reach millions of voters with this campaign. We would love to
hear your thoughts about how to get the word out. Please send your creative ideas to
peacevoter [at] codepinkalert.org.
Give Peace a Vote. That's all we are saying.
With peace and solidarity,
