LEWIS LAPHAM in conversation with Harry Kreisler
Editor Emeritus of Harper’s Magazine and one of our most respected public intellectuals, Lewis Lapham is invariably witty and lucid and “…none of his observations proves to be anything less than prophetic.” — The Boston Globe
LEWIS LAPHAM, editor emeritus of Harper’s Magazine, is one of the country’s most respected public intellectuals. A recipient of a National Magazine Award for his essay writing, he is the author of many books, including: Theater of War, 30 Satires, Waiting for the Barbarians, Gag Rule: On the Stifling of Dissent and the Suppression of Democracy, Money and Class in America, Imperial Masquerade, and his latest, Pretensions to Empire: Notes on the Criminal Folly of the Bush Administration, published by The New Press. Lapham has also written America’s Century, and hosted the accompanying six-part PBS series. He is a member of The Council on Foreign Relations, lives in New York City, and is about to launch Lapham’s Quarterly. Lewis Lapham stands virtually alone among mainstream American journalists in having consistently seen through the fog of lies and narcissism surrounding the Bush administration from its earliest days in Washington.
