Supervisor Chris Daly told the August 23rd Immigrant Rights Network press conference that the San Francisco budget includes close to one million dollars "to provide for legal representation and increased language and information services to ensure that immigrant communities and the City in general are well-prepared for any changes in Federal immigration law."

The press heard from a Latina woman -- a legal permanent resident of the Mission -- who was stopped by police officers in July in the Tenderloin and interrogated regarding her immigration status. She was demeaned regarding her English proficiency, and -- severely traumatized by the experience -- has since been fearful of leaving her apartment. Nine-minute QT movie. 32MB.
