Yes, here it is. GDIs most recent controversial movie choice. Come for the 80's film nostalgia (in a 50's setting), big hair, class conflict, teen girl's fantasy, and hot dancing stay for the intermission dance party!
Santa Cruz Guerilla Drive-In Presents
DIRTY DANCING
Friday August 18th, 8:00pm
Railroad Tracks at Fair Ave, Santa Cruz
Always free!
When it was released in 1987, it was pegged as "A nicely bittersweet genre movie" by the New York Times, but then this was the paper that also assured us there were WMDs in Iraq. Stacey tells us this is the best film ever and reminds us often that this is the only American film Castro allows in Cuba. Expecting the usual ennui that accompanies a summer in the Catskills with her family, our 17-year-old heroine instead finds herself in love with the resort's free-spirited dance instructor. Hosted by Stacey and Tiffany.
PLUS an intermission, urban wasteland, and great company.
BRING lawn chairs, blankets, pillows, friends, wine, & food to share for intermission. Donations are greatly appreciated and directly support the project.
SANTA CRUZ GUERILLA DRIVE-IN is an outdoor movie theatre under the stars that springs up in the fields and industrial wastelands. Beyond showing great movies and bringing a broad community together, part of our mission is helping reclaim public space and transforming our urban environment into the joyful playground it should be.
SUBURBAN WASTELAND LOCATION: S on Hwy 17 to Hwy 1, Hwy 1 north to Mission St, L on Fair Ave after Feral Donuts, walk a short way along the RR tracks to the right.
BREAKING NEWS, updated summer schedule, discussion, do-it-yourself, email list, the works.
