ABOUT THE SUMMIT
At this pivotal time in the immigrant rights movement, BAIRC invites you to attend the 2nd Annual Immigrant Rights Summit. The Summit is an opportunity for members to come together and make key decisions about what the Coalition will devote its attention and resources to over the next year. To ensure that this work reflects the concerns and interests of our members it is essential that you be there to make your voices heard!
In July, BAIRC's two campaign committees - 1) comprehensive immigration reform, and 2) civil rights and enforcement - recognized the natural overlap in their work and combined to form one campaign, the Immigrant Rights and Justice (IRJ) Campaign. This campaign will continue to address the same issues: safety concerns raised by the collaboration of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and local police departments; attacks on sanctuary laws; the need for legislators to hear what immigrants want from immigration reform; and much more. At the Summit, the IRJ campaign will seek your help to identify priority strategies and tactics to address these and other immigration reform and enforcement issues. You will also have the opportunity to join the IRJ campaign if you're interested in deepening your involvement with BAIRC.
Along with the strategy sessions, the Summit will feature a panel of speakers from legal, labor, and immigrant rights groups to update your organization on the local impact of pending federal immigration bills. Alexis Mazon of Coalición de Derechos Humanos (Human Rights Coalition) based in Tucson, Arizona, will also share first hand accounts of border enforcement policies in the southwest. Finally, you will meet BAIRC's incoming Director who will lead the Coalition in the exciting next phase of its work on behalf of immigrant communities in the Bay Area.
