The militarization of local law enforcement is moving forward at a very fast pace.

Military Hardware Used by Fresno County Sheriff’s Department
By Mike Rhodes

The photo above was taken today on Divisidero and San Pablo Streets in downtown Fresno. Shortly after this photo was taken, the vehicle was loaded with about 10 people dressed in military uniforms (helmets, body armor, and what appeared to be automatic weapons). The vehicle joined a caravan of Fresno County sheriff’s cars and an ambulance in the back. I noted that the vehicle had a “Thermal Eye” on top. Does anyone know if the “Thermal Eye” gives the operator the ability to see heat images (people) through the walls of homes or simply enhances night vision? The manufacture of this devise can be found here: http://www.emx-inc.com/ . I have no idea what mission this caravan was on.

Yesterday, the Fresno Police Department found the suspect in the shooting of a fellow officer. Joaquin Figueroa was shot and killed. He may, or may not, have been armed at the time he was killed. You can read about that story here: http://www.fresnobee.com/local/story/12543682p-13256105c.html

We will have to wait and see what mission the “military like” caravan was on today.

If they weren't shot in the line of duty maybe they wouldn't need defence. Why not attack the criminals who are shooting at cops?
