11/11-12: Save the Date: Campaign to End the Death Penalty Convention

by via CEDP
Please join us for a powerful and inspirational weekend that will be filled
with stories and insight about how to further our struggle to abolish the
death penalty.

November 11-12
Chicago, Illinois
773-955-4841 * http://www.nodeathpenalty.org

We are very pleased that Barbara Becnel--writer, activist, and friend and
collaborator of Stanley Tookie Williams, who was executed by the state of
California on December 13, 2005--will be one of our keynote speakers at this
year's convention.

Barbara, along with the CEDP and many other activists, worked tirelessly to
stop Stan's execution and raise our call to abolish the death penalty.
While we were not successful in saving STan, this was one of the most
important struggles that the anti-death penalty movement has seen in many
years. The fact that support for the death penalty in California dropped by
10 percentage points after Tookie's execution speaks volumes about the
impact of this struggle.

Barbara will be joined at the CEDP convention by many other activists,
including former death row prisoners and family members. Here is a partial
list of those who will be attending:

-- Shujaa Graham, exonerated from California's death row
-- Madison Hobley, pardoned from death row by former Illinois Gov. George
Ryan
-- Gloria Johnson, mother of Montell Johnson, formerly on death row, now
serving a 40-year sentence
-- Billy Moore, former Georgia death row prisoner
-- Chris Ochoa, exonerated and freed from a Texas prison, where was serving
a life sentence
-- Sandra Reed, mother of Rodney Reed, who is on death row in Texas
-- Yusef Salaam, wrongly convicted in the Central Park jogger case in New
York City
-- Darby Tillis, the first prisoner to be exonerated and freed from Illinois
death row

Please join us for a powerful and inspirational weekend that will be filled
with stories and insight about how to further our struggle to abolish the
death penalty.

Registration for the two-day conference is $50. Student and family member
registration is $25. Stipends are available for former prisoners and family
members of prisoners; contact Julien Ball for information at
