Members of the Arab & Arab American communities are invited to come between 11am-1pm to create the space for this one-day event Allies-- please join us from 1pm-9pm SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS " Remembrance " A sacred space to mourn collectively *** This Sunday, July 30th, members of the Arab and Arab-American community from all faiths and backgrounds will come together to create a sacred space and public altar to display and share offerings of hope, and other visual expressions of what we are mourning in the attacks against Lebanon, Palestine, and Iraq. This altar will be a living testament to all that we have lost or fear losing in the devastation of our homelands, our people, and our lives. *** We will come together as a community to express our grief and outrage, and to resist the dehumanization of our people. Offerings will be created & placed on the altar by the Arab and Arab-American community only, but we invite our non-Arab allies to stand in solidarity with us and bear witness. *** We call on our Arab and Arab-American brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers to attend this one-day ceremony, and bring flowers, mementos, incense, pictures, food, candles, and any offerings as expressions of your grief and outrage. Children are welcome and encouraged to attend! When: Sunday, July 30, 2006 from 1pm till 9pm Where: The Secret Garden, 2710A Harrison St. @ 23rd St. in the San Francisco Mission District. This event is initiated with support of ADCSF's Break the Siege Campaign Contact/info: Laura Farha - 510-684-7518, laurafarha@... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ meant ta'send this off be4 but lil'access in desert ... pass[in] on a sentiment that a lebanese sisterfriend of [my friend] shared at an emergency community forum wednesday. she mentioned that it really hurt her to see all the pictures of dead folks being circulated; that she felt 'this is somebody's dead' , this is sacred. somebody's sister, cousin, child, grandmother, uncle. that we do need to be aware but that she felt we need to also be respectful, to revere our martyred. i am not directing this at you of course. i just wanted to share it because it really hit me hard. |
