6. Rock out with Hedwig and the Angry Inch while, you guessed it,
Raising Money for CR Oakland, on August 1st!

1. House Party to say good bye to Sitara Saturday, July 22nd 6pm ! A
great way to meet people from Critical Resistance, celebrate our
victories and raise money to continue to the struggle against the
prison industrial complex. There will be games and prizes. grilling and
sun! Please bring items to grill and your beverages of choice. We will
have some of both, but not enough for everyone. party starts at 6pm and
will be asking donations at the door of whatever amount is significant
to you. 3125 Maple Street near the Fruitvale BART. IMPORTANT: The walk
from BART to the party can be a little long, although lovely, so if you
are feeling the needed, please call 415.314.0867 to request a pick up.

2 . Californians United for a Responsible Budget Need Your Help! July
25th, 6pm is our next mtg. We will be discussing the ways in which we
can influence the media response to the Governor's special session
request to further expansion, and impact our legislators and allies to
fight it. Please come to a mtg. We have fought similar plans n the past
and won, and we can win again! Located in our office building (see
below) on the 3rd floor. Exit the elevator, turn right and go through
the glass door.

3. The Plan for a Safer Oakland is moving ahead. Our three-point plan to
build the movement and influence public debate is now doing regular
outreach every month at a location near you! Spend time talking with
folks about investing in people and not prisons, standing up for
Oakland's youth and reinvesting in re-entry programs that truly support
and welcome former prisons as they come home. Training is provided the
day of and by spending only an hour, you can help us get media attention
and help the work grow! last week we had 9 people and delivered almost
1,000 fliers! Come to the next Plan for a Safer Oakland meting on July
27th at 6:30pm. Located in our office building (see below) on the 3rd
floor. Exit the elevator, turn right and go through the glass door.

4 . Support your hometown team and fight end the Prison Industrial
Complex all in one exciting evening, Friday, July 28th! Last year's A's
game was successful and fun. Not only do you get to buy a ticket or
several at the usual price, but this time $8 of every ticket goes to
support the work of the CR Oakland chapter, and you get to watch the A's
while in the company of a block of 100 seats of CR Oakland supporters!
There is nothing finer than good company, baseball and abolition on a
warm (ish) summer Oakland evening. Get your tickets now! Also, feel free
to buy a block of tickets and sell them to your friends! Call

5 . Critical Resistance Radio airs at 4pm July 31st on KPFA 94.1.
The show this month examines in depth why Gov. Schwarzenegger's plan is
not what he says it is. Shrouded in newspeak, we are led to believe the
new plan will alleviate crowding and finally begin to give people the
treatment and community-based healing they need, but instead we will be
treated to a huge increase in beds, prisons, privatized imprisonment and
less hope for treatment than ever.

6. Hedwig and the Angry Inch Film Showing to support CR Oakland,
Tuesday August 1st, 9:15pm ! The Parkway Theatre is once again
supporting the chapter with a fun-filled evening of film, pitchers of
beer, snacks, and a room full of Critical Resistance supporters. Rumor
has it if you sit near our very own Lani R., you can sing along with her
to all of the songs. Tickets are $7 and ALL proceeds go directly to
Critical Resistance Oakland. Over 21 with ID only. 1834 Park Blvd,

7. Join Critical Resistance Oakland and Fight to End our Reliance on
Prisons and Policing! The next New Member Orientation is August 14th at
6:30 pm. Become a part of CR Oakland by coming to a new member
orientation mtg. Our new member orientations last about an hour long and
fill you in on our current projects, a history of Critical Resistance,
our political framework and structure and will get you pumped and
prepared to work to end the prison industrial complex and its impact on
