7/22: Stand Together in the Face of War with Bay Area Women in Black (oakland lake merritt
Reply to: event-184235057 [at] craigslist.org
Date: 2006-07-20, 11:24AM PDT
As we watch and listen to the expanding military violence in both Gaza and Lebanon, Bay Area Women in Black recognizes the need for Jewish feminists and allies to gather and stand together in the powerful silence that is the tradition of Women in Black. We need to join with one another in order to mourn the dead and to respond to the heart-breaking violence.
We ask you to join us SATURDAY JULY 22 AT 1 PM as our community of sisters and support, voices of peace and resistance, our presence bearing witness to the unfolding horrors in the Middle East.
We will bring our puppets for those who desire to stand enshrouded by these powerful figures. We will take time to focus on the events in Israel/Palestine and Lebanon and provide an opportunity for each woman to respond. If you like, bring a word or symbol to share. Please wear black and signs will be provided.
WHEN: Saturday, July 22, 1 PM
WHERE: Meet at corner of Lakeshore and Mandana near Lake Merritt. We will vigil in silence to Lake Merritt where we will gather for a closing circle.
Please circulate this announcement widely to family, friends and colleagues. Thank you.
Salaam/Shalom,
BAWIB
