Dispensary Ban in El Cerrito

The El Cerrito City Council had a second vote yesterday (Monday) on a
ban against dispensaries. Despite compelling arguments by Mikki Norris,
Chris Conrad, Richard Muller, and myself (with no testimony in favor of
a ban), the city council voted 3-2 to ban dispensaries. The council
members who voted in favor of the ban did so while extolling their
support of medical marijuana, expertly speaking out of both sides of
their mouths.

Mikki's great suggestion of establishing a medical marijuana task force,
in order to enable the community to better address the issues raised,
and her offer of serving on such a task force, was ignored by the city.

Patients in El Cerrito and surrounding areas experienced the kind of
political obstructionism, masquerading as compassionate conservatism,
that is being repeated in many different forms across the state right
now. Thanks, everyone, for fighting back against this sham!

I have lived in EC for seven years. It's a nice town.

To be frank, we neither want nor need this pot club.

Berkeley is right next door. People can get all they need there.

The location of the pot club was supposed to be right next to Del Norte BART. This area already has the highest crime in EC. The vast majority of the people causing problems are not from EC, but rather from Oakland and Richmond. (check the city website for yourself). A pot club is just another draw for drug dealers who buy and resell, as has been documented over and over in San Francisco and Berkeley. Crime and disorder follow.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Don't bother calling me racist. I couldn't care less. Keep your drug dealers at home.
