Oliver Lefiti also known as Big O

by Francisco Da Costa
It is wrong to shoot to kill an human being especially when they are not armed. In San Francisco it is routine to hear to SF Police Officers shooting to kill. Of course that is easy when one side has guns and the victim is at the mercy of some cowards. Take away the gun and the coward will run away with that little tail between her or his legs. In the case of Big "O" he was in the car, unarmed, but some cowards still chose to shoot to kill. That is plain wrong.
The Polynesian Community has served this Nation well when it comes to real service. More Polynesian women and men have died for this country then members of any other community.

I am making this statement because when it comes to bravery or having guts the Polynesian Community and more the Samoans are second to none. The Somoans may be mild and tolerant but enough is enough. The death of Big "O" deserve some investigation but more sensible protocol that should be in place as soon as possible.

Since when has it become kosher to kill to shoot unarmed citizens?

How many times have we gone before the SF Police Commission and spoken about Human Rights as laid down in the United Nations Charter?

How many times have we spoken about Rights in the Constitution of this Nation?

How many times have we explained to the SF Police Chief, the SF Police Commissioners, the Police Officers Association that is it wrong to kill any human being?

Things are getting completely out of hand.

We have several cases where victims have had over 16 bullets pumped into their innocent bodies. This nonsense must stop. And on July 5, 2006 the world and San Francisco will understand what I have been saying for a long, long time. We will testify before the SF Police Commission and the SF Police Department will listen to the constituents.

I was for Proposition H but I was not for a Mickey Mouse SF Police Commission that has no clout.
It is a shame that the SF Police Commission allows so much nonsense to happen within the SFPD.

There should be a policy in place to stop the killing of innocent human beings when they are in a vehicle. Also, in the case of some who is in an attic and far removed but yet is shot to be killed.

After the killing on innocent human beings - the fabrication produced by the SFPD bedevils anyone. The Press is quick to print lies and bias. This shit must stop.

In the case of Big "O" the SF Police Department did not visit the family in hospital.

Did not contact the family at home. The first contact was made by the SF Chronicle that continues to print lies and not basic facts as I have pointed out.

Why the SFPD giving out information to dubious journalists to create confusion? Espeically White Journalist who know about Whip Cream but little about people of color? I challenge these journalists to speak at the SF Police Commission on July 5, 2006 and explain about the fabrication in the press?

Can we have some protocol NOT to give out information to the Press without first giving the information to the family?

Can we have some protocol in place to inform the family and make contact as soon as the SFPD injures or kills any person?

We are the tax payers paying for these so called Law Enforcement Officers that some break the law too many times in too many situations that can be controlled.

What is happening to the Chain of Command in the SFPD?

There is so much confusion that the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing?

What is Mayor Gavin Newsom doing about these cases? The Law Enforcement situation is running amuck and all the Spin and Media hype does not help much.

Big "O" was not perfect but no human being deserves bullets that kill when in this case the situation could have been resolved. The same with Asa in the attic. The same with many other victims all shot to kill by some trigger happy cowards wearing the Blue uniform and doing injustice to their profession.

Take the guns away and the cowards cannot face reality but more life. Some of these cowards cannot respect themselves so how can they respect other human beings and more a professional job. Some of them are not fit to be dog catchers.

Perhaps it is because most of these Police Officers just come to San Francisco to earn their salary and lots of Over Time. Who is responsible for the OT and more for the attitude that is bringing a very bad name to San Francisco?

They come here to use the constituents in the name of LE of San Francisco and then go way to their nests far away from reality. They have no connection with San Francisco except the money, the greed, and some are blood thirsty - perhaps.

The death of Big "O" shoudl be a BIG eye opener to the injustice meted out to the citizens of San Francisco and any other victim that is in the wrong place at the wrong time.

selling drugs, stolen car, 2 strike loser, out on bail for another stolen car police chase that ended in a crash just a month before ?...............innocent my ass..... when are idiots like da costa finally going to get it. if u are deep into the thug life and u are confronted with the police, doing something stupid is a sure way to get your self killed. regardless of your color, creed, sex or age...wake up
by blaming the victims, as always
blaming the victims, as always. I love it when the right regurgitates/whines/yelps the "Personal responsibility" mantra, and then we see Rush Limbaugh get busted for not taking responsibility for what he carries through an airport! LOL

No one is blaming "innocent" victims. We are blaming CRIMINALS. Perhaps you find it utterly amazing that thugs get killed when they confront the cops. Good! Good riddance to the fucking trash that has made half of SF unlivable. Cops don't live here because they can't afford an $800,000 starter home. They want their kids to be safe. They would never DREAM of putting their kids in the urban wasteland disaster of SF public schools, where teachers and students are assaulted and beaten by the spawn of yet more thugs. The "parents" or "parent" of these junior thugs are just as bad. And none of this is going to change until people take responsibility for themselves, stay in school, get a job, and take care of your own problems. I, for one, am quite tired of paying for this dysfunction. And you wonder why this dysfunction exists? It is the result of FORTY YEARS AND SEVEN TRILLION DOLLARS in welfare and 'social programs" that destroyed the black family, created a culture of dependency, and a current black culture that despises accomplishment in the "white" world, and goes about destroying itself. Sorry, but from now on, you are own your own. We will do everything we can to restore sanity to our government to deprive the underclass of their ability to mooch off the rest of us. We're done with it.

No one bothers to checks the facts and that is what counts.

The Chronicle was quick to fabricate but the facts on the street and at the crime scene reveal something else.

We now have the witnesses and that is what counts. I love the way some jackasses will say anything without knowing the real facts.

Many make misstakes and then change their ways - the ones throwing stones here think they are super perfect and of course they are right. AHs.
Is that why you were fired from your job, Steve? We've seen the racist/ignorant comments you've mad here over and over.
We've rebutted them w/ facts, but like so many right wing bigoted fear mongers, you run from the facts and aren't really interested in them unless you can twist them for your cause.
How sad.

No weapon?? I think a 2000 lb. vehicle could be considered a weapon. Especially when it is driving directly at you.

attending cop watch meetings, the police commission charades, Coleman Advocate for Youth seminars, and La Raza community forums hardly qualify u Francisco Da Costa to be the keeper of truth in S.F. What would u know about the crime scene? are u kidding? u are probably one of those fools that think the cops should just shoot the gun out of some thugs hand or maybe just shoot 'em in the leg...RIGHT. I read your posts and sometimes when u don't have a nervous breakdown when others don't agree with u, u even raise some good points. your observation of the Chronicle's accuracy and bias is well taken, although in "Big O's" case, u are talking out your ass. He made his choice, just the last and fatal choice of a wasted life
by end the police state
too bad he didn't kill those filthy corrupt pigs. Burn 'em all alive...

Let us stand by the facts and what witnesses saw on the scene in the Mission. These facts were not covered by the bias SF Chronicle report.

As for crime scene reports, incident reports, I have dealt with incident reports working with a Federal Law Enforcement agency for a long time.

Some of you may say that the SFPD wants you all to believe that Big "O" used the car as a weapon. Not so from the witnesses that saw the real facts unfold before their eyes.

When is it kosher to shoot to kill when some one is in the vehicle. Find out for yourselves how many other jurisdictions prohibit shooting at a person in the car. In this case the SFPD had all the opportunity to take question Big "O" with provoking him and shooting him to kill him.

On Friday over 30 volunteers gathered sufficient information from witnesses in the Mission that saw the incident unfold before their eyes.

The witnesses report that the SFPD used excessive force and do not agree with the bias report that most of the fools are using here as facts. The Chronicle reported that Big "O" used the car as a weapon this is not so and is a fabrication of the highest order that will come to haunt the SFPD.

If the SFPD did everything right they should have visited the family in the hospital. They did not.

The SFPD should have contacted the family at home - they did not. The SFPD have something they are hiding and they have it on their conscience.

Those great defenders of cowards should come before the SF Police Commission and testity what you are trying to do here - hiding behind your key board.

I will be there - come before the SF Police Commission and show us if you have balls. You guys have no clue how much LE experience I have - first from the U.S. Military and then again from a respected Federal Agency.

As I said too many silly comments from penile deficient low IQ morons trying to take on a subject that defies them understanding the basic facts of quality Law Enforcement followed by good and well trained Law Enforcement agencies.

How long does it take to write a Police Report if the SFPD is right?

How long does it take them to give it to the family if as you all say they have the facts in order?

This cover up will be exposed big time - but then again some of us will not waste time educating fools on a subject that needs compassion and superior intelligence. Stellar courage and ethics which those that defend the cowards have none of and more those that made this shooting to kill incident happen.

i been to plenty of police commission meetings and laughed out loud at the absurd comments nuts like u ramble on about there. if u only knew what the commissioners, cops and media people really think of u clowns Francisco, u would'nt show up anymore. like witnesses at 16th and cap st. are any more credible that the cops (assuming your not imagining it in your paranoid world that is) as for visiting some crooks family? why? so the cops can be subjected to the same nonsense u bable on about ...please i don't think so
by Andrew Goldman (goldendreidel [at] yahoo.com)
Since when does not visiting with the family mean a cover up? Has SFPD ever visited with the family of the people who have tried to kill their officers? Francisco, you seem like a somewhat intelligent man, but I think you are way off base here. Your hatred of the SFPD is clouding your vision and your comments are factless. By the way, anyone can say they work for a "federal LE agency"...name it please. Then I and others may feel that you are more credible in your views. Also, your remarks about cowards hiding behind keyboards doesn't fly as I have left my full name as well as my e-mail address.
by Francisco Da Costa
What makes you think I hate the SFPD?

You have no idea who I am and my connection with the Law Enforcement on every level. I worked for the U.S. Park Police but also for the U.S. Sixth Army for many years. Does that satisfy you Mr. Goldman? Is that kosher with you or should I have affiliations with the Third Reich?

If you presuppose Oliver Leftiti used the car he had parked as a weapon you are dead wrong.

Let us see how the SFPD proves this fact. If they were cock sure they would have had an Incident Report in hand and given it to the family. They have not. They are busy fabricating but we have the facts.

Today at 10 am Oliver Leftiti was laid to rest.

How ever many of us will not take the nonsense that the Press is putting out lightly.

Also, the lack of protocol by the SFPD. Cowards will not face reality and facts and some of the comments point to that fact.

I have never clowned before any Commission and if some idiots think all the comments made before Commissioners are not worth it - may be they should have their brain checked.

It is protocol to visit the family in hospital it has been done before. It is also good protocol to call on the family. It has been done before many times.

Some of you presuppose you know too much. We have some lousy cops in San Francisco and they should go work some where else. They get too much Over Time and they kill to shoot. This has happened too many times in San Francisco.

We will testify before the SF Police Commissioners and we will ask for justice. We will not be afraid of cowards and there are some within the SFPD and some idiotic supporters that comment without knowning the facts.

Oliver Leftiti was a Samoan. Too many Samoans have served this Nation and given their lives. They are not cowards in war and on the street. Many SFPD shit in their pants rather then face a Samoan Warrior. May be that is what happened - the two cowards used their weapons because they shat in their pants.

I would like you Mr. Goldman to come to the Commission Meeting at 5:30 pm on July 5, 2006 in Room 400 at City Hall and make the stupid comments you dare make on this forum. Let us see if you have the balls now that you think you gave out your name.

by the way there are no doubt several Samoan Warriors as u put it serving their country and city as S.F. police officers. I wonder what they think of "Big O" and the embarrassment he represents. better yet i wonder what they think of a moron like u who actually would write something about Somoan Warriors, Like Somoan Americans are a bunch of natives running around some island instead of American citizens who as u correctly pointed out have a long and honorable record of service to their fellow Americans, minus the spears u no doubt imagine them with. P.S. if u would care to include a email address I would be happy to continue this debate, however unequal it is . better yet, if I can stifle my laughter at the Police Charades (commission, i mean) long enough, i'll look for u. U will be the guy wearing the tin foil hat right?

Dear Francisco,

Thank you for your courage and clarity, on the senseless Murder of Big O, in your article on Indybay, telling it like it is as always !

Let's see.

April 6 2005, Julio Ayala, 27, Salvadoran youngster is beaten to death by 13 SSFPD officers. His crime: making too much noise in his hotel room after midnight. Official version: "stopped breathing"

In July 06, Gina Hinton, 28, African American Sister gets shot 7 times while her hands are extended on her dashboard in a surrendering position, and the officer tosses her helpless body until the ambulance arrives, as one would with a fowl after the hunt. Gina miraculously survives her terrifying ordeal and await a possible life sentence in San Ameto Jail, forgotten by the world, for "backing her car into a police car"

Tyrelle Taylor, 17, African American gets shot 5 times in the back, then gets badly beaten up barely alive in September 06 in Bayview. At 14, he had been beaten by Bayview PD on Kiska Road during the infamous MLK incident. At 17, he survives his execution while his case against PD in Supreme Court is coming up. Idriss Stelley Foundation raises $15,000 and he is freed on bail, awaiting trial at an undisclosed location outside of SF, while his family continues to be terrorized by SFPD.

His friend Marcus Law, 17, African American who also at 14 was badly beaten up on West Point and Middle Point by Bayview PD gets shot and killed at 17 in 2006. His case was coming up in federal court. Right after the shooting, youngsters shout at a police car: "Roight there, the white van went up towards Kiska Road!". The officers glare at them and slowly drive in the opposite direction towards 3rd Street.

Craig Holden, 21, African American asphyxiates to death alone without his asthma inhaler, badly beaten up, missing teeth, found "slumped on a bench at Bayview Precinct, dead, 21. Offical version: "stopped breathing"

2 months later, the SFPD Bayview racist, homophobic and homicidal infamous videotapes rock the Nation. all 29 videotapes realized on company time, personnel and equipment and budget. The "Blue Ribbon Commission" gets dissolved, end of the story.

2 months later, The SF Chronicle covers SFPD excessive force and lethal incidents for a full month.

Yet, 2 months later, Kathleen Eklund, interacial is shot and killed by CHP and SFPD off San Jose avenue, the lies go on, she would have "backed up her car into a police car", although ocular witnesses clearly saw that she was shot while her car came to a stop, away from officers or police cars.

On 6-6-06, Asa Sullivan, 25, African American is shot and killed in a 2/1 crawl space while holding an eyeglass case. The police switches lies several times, never activates a family liaison to this day (but they received a pamphlet from PD...). "Suicide by Cop", as Idriss Stelley in 2001

12 days later, Big O, 36, Samoan is executed, again no family liaison has been activated. "tried to ram his car into a police car"

Racism and the Man Hunt are alive and thriving on SF Plantation.
by Idriss Stelley Foundation (justice4BigO [at] yahoogroups.com)
Dear Francisco,

Yeah, as plain as that.

It was very disheartening to see the SF Police Commissioners not even present their condolences to Big O's family last Wednesday..Not even common decency. More insulting was to see President Louise Renee (what else to expect from a former City Atty appointed by Newsome on the Commission to counteract progressive Commissioners) rudely interrupt Big O's wife, Wendee, (while she wondered why she had not been contacted by a PD liaison to let her know ANYTHING about what happened to her husband). and call Chief Heather Fong out of order to the stand, (during Wendee's allotted time in public comments), Fong who once more lied to her teeth stating that the family had been contacted 3 times by her department. The family of Asa Sullivan, murdered by PD on 6-6-06, still awaits a call, but has received a "pamphlet" from PD. The commission requested from sfpd TO IMMEDIATELY ACTIVATE A PD LIAISON TO THE FAMILIES LAST WEEK, ALL THEY GET ARE NOTHING BUT LIES...

God save us all.

Mr. Da Costa,

May I suggest that you afford the police officers the same presumption of innocence that you keep ranting about regarding Mr. Lefiti. It is a tragedy whenever anyone is killed unnecessarily. It is an equal tragedy when someone throws away their life. If the officers were guilty of excessive force, I believe all fair-minded readers would condemn their actions. However, I hope that if Mr. Lefiti did present an immediate threat to the officers, you will condemn his actions as well. Unfortunately, I think you're agenda speaks for itself and that is unfortunate.
by The car
Let's see. In this country, cars kill 45,000 people a year and handguns kill about 9,000. It would also seem that you have a better chance of suriving a gunshot than being hit by a car. Just ask the Tongan royals. I don't think you got to the age you have by standing in front of moving cars , now have you?
by T
Thank you Da Costa for writing this. All those that knew and were close to Big O appreciate your words.

Unfortunately, all the other comments that have been posted here are only concerned with how the police look.... Well, I have to say no one really cared in the immediate news coverage about Big O...all they could state was that "no police officers were injured". Good for them....... mean while the side window and the the back window of the vehicle Big O were shot out...... Hmmm.... makes you really think about what kind of a threat Big O really posed the officers (IF ANY AT ALL).....if Big O was out to run down the officers then....I would think that the windshield would have been first to go.

Again....Thank you Da Costa for exposing more of the truth.....Big O's family, friends and loved ones appreciate it.
