For an indepth report about how the use of pesticides backfires and makes matters worse, visit http://meepi.org/wnv/overkillma.htm

If you are concerned about mosquito bites, try a non-toxic homemade alternative (you can also buy catnip oil at some herb shops): http://eastbaypesticidealert.org/Catnip%20Mosquito%20Repellant.htm

There is NO safe use of pesticides!!!

WEST NILE INFECTED MOSQUITES FOUND IN SANTA CLARA COUNTY
Community Meeting Set To Discuss Possible Ground Fogging to Control Adult Mosquitoes
SAN JOSE, CALIF.—West Nile virus (WNV) infected mosquitoes have been detected during on-going surveillance in Santa Clara County (the County) late last week. The Santa Clara County Vector Control District (VCD) detected the positive mosquitoes after setting traps in an area where two WNV positive crows were found last week. The positive mosquitoes and birds were found in the area around Prospect Road and Johnson Ave. Although these are not the first WNV positive birds found in the County, this is the first indication of WNV infected mosquitoes this year. If more infected mosquitoes are detected in this area ground fogging to suppress adult mosquitoes will occur. Seven (7) WNV positive birds have been found in the County, four (4) within or bordering the “area of concern”.
A community meeting has been planned to bring residents up to date on WNV in the area, as well as District plans regarding ground fogging for adult mosquitoes, if surveillance deems it necessary. The meeting will occur Wednesday July 5, at 7:00 pm at Lynbrook High School on 1280 Johnson Ave., San Jose. A mailer has been sent to approximately 15,000 residents in the affected area.
