Dr.Vandana Shiva—physicist, activist, and author—will discuss how local food systems around the world are threatened by global trade policies and institutions such as the World Trade Organization (WTO). Dr. Shiva will speak about the impact U.S. farm policies and giant agribusinesses have on farmers and rural communities in India, her home country. She will also present alternative policies that help protect and encourage local food systems, safe and nutritious foods, and sustainable food production.
