AC4A -- film picks for Frameline
Happy Pride Month! We'll have some exciting Pride-related news to convey towards the
end of the month, but for now we really wanted to take a moment to celebrate the
start of the 30th SF Int'l LGBT Film Festival, organized by Frameline.
end of the month, but for now we really wanted to take a moment to celebrate the
start of the 30th SF Int'l LGBT Film Festival, organized by Frameline.
Every year, the film festival provides a great opportunity to see the best -- and
most diverse -- LGBT film the world has to offer, from last year's audience favorite
Blood, Sweat & Glitter about the now-infamous Ms. Trannyshack pageant (produced
by our own AC4A founding member Sasha Aickin) to history-making films like Marlon
Riggs' Tongues Untied, arguably the most influential Black LGBT film ever made (and
now, one of the first archived films Frameline is converting to DVD for
distribution, hopefully with your support!). If AC4A were a media arts
organization, we'd probably look a LOT like Frameline.
Given the synergy in our respective missions, we wanted to encourage you to take in
some great, diverse, LGBT film. If you're feeling overwhelmed by all the choices,
here is a list of "recommended" films, per the semi-random advice of
Frameline board member John Newsome.
Thanks, and hope to see you at the Festival!
- Your Friendly AC4A Team
P.S. - Selected comp tickets may be available to AC4A members. If you have a
specific request, please contact jonnynunu [at] aol.com
