Black Churches Fail The Youth When It Comes To Black Youth And Violence In The Bayview

by Francisco Da Costa
Our Black youth are being killed in the Bayview Hunters Point and the Black Church have NOT steped up to the plate to do the right thing. Often times in the Bayview you will hear Black Pators scream and shout but nothing more and nothing less. At one time the Black Pastors were a force to be reckoned with - no more. Today, most of them are on the take and play second fiddle to those issues that really affect the community - the Black on Black killing in one of them.
The Black Pastors or Preachers many of them fake as fake as the $10 dollar collar they wear have failed the Black Youth in the Bayview and beyond.

Many of them can shout, scream and some will even sing and dance - it stops there when it comes to curtailing the violence and the killing in the Southeast Sector and to a degree in the Western Addition too and beyond.

Willie L. Brown Jr. knew how to get the Pastors into one room and give a little here and a little there and get them to do his bidding. No Pastor could take a stand against on issues that Willie L.Brown Jr. had his finger in the dirty pie or took a stand on.

Pastors like Calvin Jones and Aurelious Walker are two Pastors that have failed our community in the Bayview.

Yet, at many San Francisco Redevelopment Agency (SFRA) meetings these two men will speak in favor of SFRA - becuase they are on the take. Both have got money to build facilties and homes near their Churches. They have got money from SFRA.

Other Pastors will be first to ask for money and other material stuff from their congregation but will not open their Churches to the youth.

Just outside many Churches some 70 Black Churches in the Bayview you will see youth hanging around. Any decent Pastors could just walk out and reach out to the youth.

The Pastors will NOT do this. You see them driving posh cars and hanging around with women of dubious character but when it comes to serving our youth and stopping Crime and Violence - no one has yet attended one of the key meetings to bring about solutions and find a way through SACRIFICE AND LOVE to stop the killing.

Black Pastors have through history been the back bone of the Black community. They have taken advantage of this situation when they ask for money and favors and get it.

But now they have been in bed with corrupt forces like the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency (SFRA) and certain officials of the City and County of San Francisco - working against the interests of the youth and the community and failing to do their duty which is to SERVE the community and our youth. The have fallen prey to Greed, Money, and Materialism.

If all the Black Churches came together and stood together we would be a force to reckon with. If all the Churches stood together and united and asked the YOUTH to join them the violence would stop. If all the Churches joined hands and used their common EQUITY we would not need SFRA.
We our common Equity we could build homes and facilities and better our standard of living.

Blacks built Washington DC so why can be not build areas near our home in the Bayview. We have people that know about construction and others have skills to that can help in the rebuilding. What we do not have is UNITY because of some sellout Blacks.

Making matters worse are the many Pastors that will meet with cetain consultant and forces that help SFRA and some City and County of San Francisco officials and take bribes. The Pastors should be there for the community and especially for the youth. However, this is not the case because the sellout Pastors on the take do not have the better interests of the community at large. They do not care about the youth and some will talk down to the youth.

I have never seen one single Pastor at the Disposition and Development Meetings. Yet, the SFRA chose to give the Tabernacle Group first choice for Community Benefits on Parcel A. The group has no expertise to build homes but they do have crooked expertise to ask for favors and divide the community.

There are Bishops like Bishop Green who can lead a march down 3rd Street but he will not. When I last saw him he told me he goes to Kenya to preach. Well, my dear Bishop reach out to the youth in your backyard - and stop having those long, heavy eating breakfasts at your Mission Den surrounded by Pastors that are NOT worth the salt.

I am fed up of attending wakes.

I am fed of attending funerals.

I am really fed up of the Black on Black violence and killings especially when the Pastors take it very lightly and do not do something about it on a war footing.
