Thursday, June 15
6 - 9 AM

KFPT AM 790 (Air America in Fresno) has re-scheduled the cancelled April 21 Fresno-based broadcast of nationally syndicated The Stephanie Miller Show, at La Ryan Event Center in Fresno. The April broadcast was cancelled due to the death of Miller's beloved pet, Chester, a Saint Bernard.

Since its September 2004 debut, The Stephanie Miller Show is one of the fastest growing shows in Progressive Talk, now heard on more than 40 stations, including major market stations in Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Boston. New affiliates, such as those in Fresno, Rochester, Sacramento, Minneapolis, and Seattle, are signing on at a rapid pace. Miller attributes her ratings success to the fun of her daily show. "It's almost not fair," said Miller. "The Bush Administration gives us so much material every day; I should send THEM my ratings bonuses."

The June 15 live broadcast event is free, however, advance tickets are required. These tickets can only be obtained at Radio City (1071 W. Shaw, at Palm in Fresno) during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:30pm). Tickets from the postponed April 21 event will be honored at the June 15 event. Miller will be available for press interviews immediately following the live broadcast at 9 a.m., and will then sign autographs and take pictures for all those in attendance.

Friday, June 16
6:30 - 8:30 PM

The Reedley Peace Center presents the movie: Soldiers in the Army of God. Introduced by outgoing Students for Peace president, Andrew Valencia.  Since abortion was legalized in 1973, seven people have been killed and more than 150 clinics bombed or set on fire by people who disagreed with Roe v. Wade. SOLDIERS IN THE ARMY OF GOD presents the tin soldiers who are behind more than 2,400 incidents of violence against doctors and abortion clinics in the past 28 years. This is a story about the people who are not exercising first amendment rights, they are not trying to "counsel" patients; they are not peaceful picketers. They are - intentionally, openly and usually without restraint - terrorizing people and encouraging others to do the same.

Light potluck at 6:30. Program begins at 7 pm. This event is sponsored by the Reedley Peace Center and will be held at the Fellowship Hall of First Mennonite Church, on 'L' street between 12th and 13th streets in Reedley. Admission is free. Contact Don Friesen by email at dfriesen@telis.org

7:30am Gathering for March
8:00am March Begins at San Diego Park
9:00am Rally and Fiesta upon arrival at Lamont Park (Corner of Segrue and Myrtle)

JUST WAGES MARCH
"Just Wages, Respect and Dignity, Economic Justice " You are invited to join the families of Lamont/Arvin Community in their efforts to achieve Economic Justice on Sunday June 8, 2006.  Workers in the Lamont area and in Kern County have not seen an increase in wages for many years. Yet, the cost of living continues to escalate making it difficult for families to survive.

Although improvements have been made, workers still encounter the harsh working conditions depicted in the famous film Grapes of Wrath. (Lamont is near Weedpatch where the famous movie Grapes of Wrath was filmed at the Sunset Labor Camp.)

The goal of the march is to call attention to the low wages and demand a wage increase that is long over due. Your participation in this March is a visible form of support for the workers and their families who toil daily in the hot sun to put the food on our tables. Please invite your colleagues and their families to join them in this call for justice.

The march will begin early at 8:00 a. m. to beat the heat; gathering will begin at 7:30 a.m. The March will begin at San Diego Park and will end at the Lamont Park (Segrue & Myrtle Streets) with a rally and fiesta at the park.

PROTEST BY FAMILIES, FRIENDS, AND SUPPORTERS WORKING TOGETHER TO STOP POLICE BRUTALITY. Where: Corner of "N" street and Mariposa in Fresno
Across the main library entrance. Who: The National Oct 22 Coalition against Police Brutality

Why should you act on October 22nd?"Silence is the voice of complicity." The nationwide epidemic of police brutality and repression is hidden from many people who would be outraged if they knew what was happening. Many people have become apprehensive about reprisals for protesting in today's political climate. We must resist in many different ways to drag this truth out into the light of day. October 22, 2004, the 9th annual National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation is the day for thousands across the country to speak out and act. Our resistance will give others courage.

In over 20 years despite countless police killings there has not been one officer discipline for taking someone's life in the valley. We want to send a message that killer cops will not be tolerated in our valley any longer. We DEMAND to live in a society where law enforcement professionals are willing to risk their lives to ensure peoples' safety not murder innocent people and then claim their lives were at risk. A society where youth aren't treated like criminals because of the color of their skin. Where immigrants aren't rounded up and detained because of what part of the world they're from. A society where more and more of the people are being involved in grappling with how to do away with all the misery and degradation characteristic of this system.
