Big Brother is Watching, Protect Yourself!
a workshop and skill-share on surveillance

Sunday, June 4th
4-7pm

Station 40
3030b 16th St. (& Mission)

The country is slowly waking up to what many activists already know: the federal government is systematically violating people's privacy rights by engaging in broad, illegal programs of electronic surveillance and data collection, under the pretext of preventing terrorism. As Orwellian government power continues to expand, in a vacuum created by public fear and media distortion, the government has also stepped up its harassment of dissenters, and harassment of activist groups. Join us for a workshop on government surveillance, which addresses what the government can do, what it is doing, and what you can do about it.

Ben Rosenfeld, civil rights attorney, will give an overview of the law with respect to electronic surveillance, informants, and physical searches, and also discuss accruing evidence that the federal government is currently engaged in a campaign to harass and disrupt anarchist organizing.

Bridget Prince, private investigator, will share her knowledge on how an individual living in the US can be found and tracked down.

Moxie Marlinspike, hacker, will give a skill-share on your security on the internet. Some of the topics that will be covered will include; e-mail and data encryption, internet anonymity, password and laptop security.

Participants can bring their laptops and get help in generating GPG (e-mail encryption)/OTR (instant messaging encryption) keys.
