Green Party Joins Celebrities at LA's Urban Farm Encampment
California Greens join celebrities, tree-sitters in ‘solidarity' with South Central LA farmers trying to save nation's largest urban farm.
The Green Party joins Julia "Butterfly" Hill and celebrities Joan Baez, actresses Daryl Hannah and Laura Dern, and slide guitarist Ben Harper in leading protests demanding environmental justice for Latino farmers in South Central L.A., whose 14 acre farm is in jeopardy of being bulldozed to build a Wal-Mart. "We are putting out a call to Green Party members and others across the state and nation, to come to Los Angeles and stand in solidarity with the farmers against a developer and city government who refuse to save this community farm. If they evict and jail them, they'll have to evict and jail us too," said Michael Feinstein, former Santa Monica mayor. Read the full press release for more information.

I gather, from the news reports, that the value of this 104 acre plot is at least the asking price of 16 million, and the various groups and persons attempting to save the farm have obtained pledges of about 12 million. Hopefully, they can get an agreement for further time to raise the remaining 4 million and buy this property. Ultimately, after a reasonable period of time, if their attempts fail, they need to get off this property and forget about it. The owner has a right to sell to others, and to evict squatters in order to do so and transfer the property.
