KNYO-LP 107.7 FM SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY RADIO ROCKS MENDOCINO COAST
Microradio activists in Fort Bragg, California are now on the air with a community radio station that will promote local arts, activism and bring new views, ideas and beats to a rural area where the airwave are dominated by commercial, corporate and Christian broadcasting.
Starting May 7th, 2006, KNYO-LP 107.7 FM, a new non-profit microradio community station is broadcasting in the Fort Bragg, Caspar, and Cleone areas of the Mendocino coast. Our station is pledged to bringing to the airwaves oppressed and submerged voices in an area where most radio stations either play exclusively classic rock, commercials, or Christian rock. KNYO-LP is a media forum that will be open to everyone in the community, but we will emphasize broadcasting the voices of those who are generally under-represented in the local media: youth, minorities, and the working class. We have been battling with FCC bureaucracy for 6 years in order to get our broadcasting permit, and now we are finally on the air! We stand in alliance with Prometheus Radio Project of Philly, KDRT of Davis, Berkeley Liberation Radio and countless other LPFM, microradio and pirate stations taking back the airwaves through agitation or direct action. The airwaves will belong to the people!
