Last month, I shared with you that, as a native South Dakotan, I
was outraged when my state passed a ban on abortion. Your
responses were so heartwarming! I even heard from other South
Dakota natives who were thrilled to see one of their own
standing up for freedom and privacy.

Your well wishes inspired me so much that I went home this week
to help the South Dakota Campaign for Healthy Families alongside
our affiliate, NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota. Working with our
partners in South Dakota, we had one common goal: restore common
sense to South Dakota by overturning this abortion ban. NARAL

Here at home, we're going door-to-door collecting signatures
from pro-choice South Dakotans. I want to tell you about my
first two petition signers. As I nervously walked up to a house
in Sioux Falls, I saw an older man on his lawnmower in his yard.
He hopped off the mower and came out to greet me. He asked
gruffly, "Whatcha sellin'?" I told him about the petition, and
he said, "Well shoot, I'm for that." And he signed right there.
Then, he went inside to get his wife, and she signed too. As I
walked away beaming, he went back to mowing the lawn and waved
at me. To me, our exchange was an example of what's best about
our state.
