SAN FRANCISCO -- A group that wants to crack down on undocumented workers hopes to launch a Bay Area chapter of the Minutemen on Monday night in Fremont.
The Minutemen is a national organization of citizens who volunteer to patrol the border.
Local organizers said California cannot handle its current influx of immigrants.
"I think our welfare system, our court system are just totally overwhelmed," Charles Dirkman said. "I think the only way we're going to be able to handle this is by increasing taxes or printing money."
A Minutemen march and rally in Los Angeles on Saturday ended with several arrests.
Immigrant rights activists shouted at the group as they marched toward City Hall.
Activists said they agree with the Minutemen on at least one point -- the need for changes in immigration legislation.
