DWR is interactive, educational theatre that explores the Drug War in Colombia, South America (recipient of over $4 billion in US foreign assistance money since 2000) and the US through digital images, puppets and humor. During the show, [puppet character] “Camilo the Campesino Coca Farmer” from Colombia shares his “first person testimony” of being fumigated as part of the US-financed Plan Colombia package while—thousands of miles away--“Strugglin’ Stan the US Hustler” reflects on his experience being incarcerated for a non-violent drug crime. “Carla the Common Sense Mechanic” helps the audience question what is “under the hood” and really “driving” the Drug War, while “Babblin’ Babs the US Bureaucrat” defends current US policy. Our popular education style show is a hit for university, community and faith-based groups; unlike a traditional lecture, our engaging shows invite audiences to get involved in their own learning. Yes, the Drug War is serious--but learning about it should be fun! We’ll see you at the show!
