Petition Against Parking Garage Paranoia & Update
The Cabrillo Student Body President and the Head of the Cabrillo Democrats testified at the last City Council meeting against the Public Works Department's latest shutdown of public space. The law to ban everyone (but especially homeless people) from parking garages entirely, and limit motorists to fifteen minutes, passed City Council on May 9th 6-1, and comes back for a final reading on May 23rd.
The two student body leaders recently appeared on Club Cruz for half an hour to explain their reasons for opposing the law. That show airs Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 PM (probably next week or the week after).
Other student activists who attended City Council meeting are now circulating petitions on campus (see below) opposing the law.
One student reported to me tonight that the Cabrillo Republicans now oppose the law. Other clubs are being approached to contact City Council at 420-5020. An editorial is slated to appear in the Cabrillo Voice soon.
Readers are encouraged to e-mail letters in to the Sentinel, and City on a Hill opposing the law.
The on-line petition can be signed and/or a hard copy downloaded at: http://www.petitiononline.com/paniclaw/petition.html .
