This is a really, really busy activist weekend in Sacramento. Take your pick of the following events - or go to all of them!
1. Pratap Chatterjee Event
Investigative Journalist to Speak on "Follow the Money: War Profiteering in Iraq" on May 12
Hear investigative journalist Pratap Chatterjee, director of CorpWatch and author of Iraq Inc: A Profitable Occupation, speak at the Newman Center, 5900 Newman Court, in Sacramento on Friday May 12, 7:30 p.m. The topic is "Follow the Money: War Profiteering in Iraq."
CorpWatch is a non-profit organization which investigates and exposes corporate violations of human rights, environmental crimes, fraud and corruption around the world. Chatterjee's early coverage of Bechtel was named Best Business Story by the National Newspaper Association, and he is the recipient of five Project Censored Awards. His articles have appeared in the Financial Times, the New Republic, The Guardian (UK), and The Independent (UK). Chatterjee also hosts a weekly environmental radio show called Terra Verde on Berkeley radio station KPFA.

Latino Candidate Forum Saturday: 2 candidates
consider support for plan to allow early voting
rights for immigrants before citizenship granted
SACRAMENTO – Two candidates for statewide office participating in a
county-sponsored "Latino Candidate Forum" here Saturday are expected to say
they support a plan to grant full legal status to undocumented immigrants
immediately, and possibly allow them to vote even before that in certain
cases.
The first-ever "Latino Candidate Forum," hosted by the Sacramento County
Voter Registration and Elections Office, will be held Saturday, from 2 to 5
p.m. at the Teichert Boys and Girls Club (5212 Lemon Hill Ave.).
At least 22 candidates for offices ranging from Governor, Lt. Governor,
Attorney General and Secretary of State to local races for City Council,
Supervisor and Sheriff are expected to attend.
Among them is gubernatorial candidate Peter Miguel Camejo, and Secretary of
State candidate Dr. Forrest Hill – both are Green Party candidates who
support amnesty and full legalization of undocumented immigrants. They will
make public their views on immigrant rights, and voting rights for all
immigrants during the debate.
Others, besides Camejo and Hill, confirming attendance are Sen. Deborah
Ortiz, Sec. of State race; Sen. Liz Figueroa, Lt. Governor race and
Councilman Steve Cohn, Sacramento City Council Dist. 3 race.
The "Forum" will include a discussion of state propositions by former
Sacramento Mayor Anne Rudin. It is hosted by Xochitl Arellano, reporter and
host of KUVS Univision "Voz & Voto."

The Brown Syndicate, the Campaign Against Unjust Immigration Laws (CAUIL) and SOL Collectvive Arts & Cultural Center are proud to invite you to "politicARTE," a Xicano art exhibit featuring posters that were giving away to the masses at all the pro-immigrant rallies, protest and marches in Sacramento. These rallies, protest and marches include: the March 10 Teach-in at Southside Park, the Cesar Chavez March, the April 10th Action Day and the May 1st: A Day Without Immigrants. The Brownn Sindicate will also show mini-documentales of the actios taken by the immigrant and migrant communities and their allies.
There will be an informational segment by CAUIL, a poetry reading by Comandanta Kika Ruda (Modesto) and Xico Gonzalez (Sacras), teatro by Semilla (Davis), musica veracruzana by Son Jarocho (Davis) and reggaeton by G58 (Sacras).
This is a family event so bring your papas, chamaquitos, primos, primas,tios, tias, parientes, novios, novias, abuelitas, abuelitos (tu agarras el punto!).
Proceeds to benefit Grupo Raza School's Academia del Barrio and the Campaign Against Unjust Immigration Laws (CAUIL).
