Single-Payer/Universal Healthcare in California: Candidates and Legislators Speak Out
Candidates for the California Assembly will speak out on Senate Bill 840 which will provide a Single-Payer System for Universal Healthcare in California; Saturday, May 13, Noon, at UC Medical Center, San Francisco.
The California Health Insurance Reliability Act, Senate Bill 840 introduced by State Senator Sheila Kuehl, will be the subject of dicussion by State Assembly candidates this Saturday, 13 May, at noon on the UC Medical Center campus in San Francisco. The legislation, which has been passed by the State Senate, will provide for a streamlined Single Payer system of health insurance which would provide comprehensive health and medical coverage for every Californian.
Legislators and candidates for state offices who will discuss this issue and the legislation include Supervisor Fiona Ma (Democrat), Barry Hermanson (Green Party), and Janet Reilly (Democrat), running for the 12th Assembly District seat. Assembly member Mark Leno running for the 13th Assembly District seat, Speaker Pro Tem Leland Yee and Mike Nevin, Democrats running for the 8th State Senate District seat will speak, as will a representative from the office of State Senator Carole Migden.
The forum is sponsored by the American Medical Student Association, Single Payer Now, and by Health Care For All and will be held on Saturday 13 May, noon, in the Medical Sciences Building, room S-214.
