A Nigerian government report found that Pfizer tested the experimental drug Trovan on children without their authorization. Nearly 100 children and infants that suffered from a deadly strain of meningitis received the drug at a field hospital in Kano. Five children died after being treated with the experimental antibiotic and others contracted arthritis. The report remained confidential for almost five years.

Start here- this is unbelievably egregious, and the govt and the pharmasceuticals have been covering up for ages:
Do you know about Simian Virius 40?
A few generations ago, polio was like HIV or the bird flu- the masses were terrified of it. Govt and Big Pharm were in a big hurry to get a vaccine on the market. When Salk developed his vaccine in '55- it was cultured live in the kidneys of monkeys, and then "killed" with formaldehyde. But within 5 years, researchers discovered that the mixture was causing tumors in laboratory animals. When the virus was isolated, it was named SV 40.
In recent years, the DNA signature from SV 40 has been found in a very high percentage of human brain bone and lung cancers. (According to some statistics- in up to 80% of them). The incidence of many cancers have risen 75% in a generation- some people have speculated that SV 40 has a role in this.
There has been precious little about this in the mainstream media. An article in the Atlantic, an article in the New Yorker, a few mentions in the Chron, wondering if it explained how HIV jumped hosts to human ...the medical literature, however, contains thousands of references to this.
I believe we all can be allies, even if we can't be friends.

When you look at Pub Med, you'll see that they've determined that SV 40 works on a cellular level, by deactivating the tumor supressor genes.
They (esp Carbone) have looked at the relationship between SV 40 and mesothelioma- (SV 40 + asbestos = mesothelioma) With the exception of the asbestos related work, the various studies don't look at the interreactions with other co-carcinogens. ( for example- maybe SV40 + petroleum distilates= non hodgkins leukemia) This is one of the major issues in cancer research- they tend to analyze chemicals individuallly, and ignore the affects of the chemical "Cocktails" we are exposed to on a daily basis. The chemicals and contaiminants react with each other- in addition to reacting within our bodies. Its possible, or even probable that SV 40 creates enough damage within the cell to allow carcinogens to their dirty work. The effect isn't casual pe se, but contributory.

Clearly there isn't alot of motivation (and money) for this research
It looks like its actualluy one of the antigens (the 'larg T-Ag) that 1. blocking tumor suppression pathways, as well as 2. Stimulating cell division
While this is important for medical epidemiologists and researchers, I don't know how useful any of this is from the standpoint of activism- in terms of medicine it is ancient history. I just find it curious that literally tens of thousands of articles have been published about this, and still the mass of America remains ignorant.
I'm just trying to get up to speed on the science....considering where to take it activism wise (strategies/tactics)...we'll see. Like I said, I'm going to talk w/ a Micro teacher about what's already been/being done, get her thoughts/opinions.
