HI
I live in chicken raising country and the chicken farmers do not want to eat chicken because of the hormones and additives fed to the chikens Also it is sad the way they are raised, in crowded smelly chiken houses If you could see their living conditions it would be hard to eat chicken again So after less than 3 months on hormone laden feed they go to the slaughterhouse manned by Mexicans and other desperate people who work for minimum wage collecting (and this means being in a breath stopping chicken manure laden chicken house that will make you so sick but the desperate Mexicans will do it) chickens and then they go to the Tyson or Pilgrim's Pride plant' these cognizant birds who never knew their Momma; and if you dont know (as I had to learn) that chickens have their own personality and act much like dogs, loving their Keeper, especially the ones raised for meat like the big reds and broilers who are white chickens) the whole thing becomes disturbing and I really have limited my meat and chicken and calorie consumption as would anyone who raised chickens; you tend to limit your consumption if you raise your food personally, they get to be like children,,so may the greed of the Bussh administration be visited upon them and their ilk three thoousand fold for the profits they maje are borne upon the backs of the meek

Vermont did not reserve a right of secession but three other of the

I can not find it right now... but the Oregon costitution (not sure about the other
Cascadian states and provinces) did put in its constitution the right of
Oregonians to dismantle their government and create a new one. I posted it
once in here and I believe that is literally carved into the capitol building

"I cannot undertake to lay my finger
on that article of the Constitution
which granted a right to Congress of expending,

"The real "haves" are they who can acquire freedom, self-confidence, and even riches without depriving others of them. They acquire all of these by developing and applying their potentialities. On the other hand, the real "have nots" are they who cannot have aught except by depriving others of it. They can feel free only by diminishing the freedom of others, self-confident by spreading fear and dependence among others, and rich by making others poor."

Making the Trains Run In Time:
Why we need to get serious about mass transit now
Gas was $3.37 for regular at my local station this morning. Fortunately, I had walked down just to get the morning paper, and so didn’t need to start my day by engaging in whimpering. The paper had a list of prices around the state and country, and for a nice change, our prices weren’t higher than anyone’s on that list. Under the circumstances, it isn’t cause for jubilation, but it’s something, I suppose.

election scams
Governments are installing computerized voting systems with no paper
record to verify accuracy. Elections will be controlled by companies
that do not allow voters to inspect their software. If vote counting
becomes privatized, there may be no way to get it back. High-tech vote
fraud is already a reality. If you value your vote, you absolutely
must get this information to your friends – and fast!
History of voting systems, the Help America Vote Act, problems with
electronic voting, fraud and tampering, conflicts of interest

May 3rd: "Vote Rigging 101" part 1 and 2 by Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club
Blacked out or dismissed as 'conspiracy theories' by corporate news
outlets, reports of massive vote fraud in the 2004 presidential
election circulated on the internet and independent media.
On Saturday, February 26, 2005, non-partisan election integrity
experts and voting rights activists from around the country to share
research, information about the many ways election fraud happened
nationwide in the 2004 presidential. They also shared strategies for
reclaiming and repairing an electoral system vulnerable to rigging and
manipulation from registration to recount.
Includes presentations of 18 speakers, including Bob Fitrakis, Warren
Stewart, Jonathan Simon, Allyson Washburn, Jim March, Wayne Madsen,
Madea Benjamin, and Lynn Landes.

May 10th: "Vote Rigging 101" part 3
A Little Ligth'LL Do Ya: Defending Democracy in America
As the Jan. 6th, 2005 deadline for a challenge to the Electoral
College vote drew near, a tiny village on the California coast raised
funds to send a delegation of its citizens and an award-winning
documentary team to Ohio and Washington, D.C. to get the facts. They
found overwhelming evidence of a stolen election…and a small, diverse
group of committed people – from the street and the elite - defending
democracy against overwhelming odds. This is their report.

May 17th: "Invisible Ballots" by William Gazec
khttp://www.store.yahoo.com/realityzone/ballots.html
Topics include: History of voting systems, The Help America Vote Act,
Problems with electronic voting, Errors and glitches in real
elections, Fraud and tampering, Conflicts of interest, Should voting
be privatized? The voter-verified paper ballot.
Featured experts include: Dr. David Dill, Professor of Computer
Science at Stanford University. Dr. Rebecca Mercuri, Research Fellow
at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. Bev Harris,
independent investigator and author of Black Box Voting. Dr. Avi
Rubin, Technical Director of the Information Security Institute at
Johns Hopkins University.
"Help America Vote...on paper!" by Ecological Options Network
This short film finds that much of the uncertainty and persistent
controversy surrounding past elections is rooted in the sheer number
of lost votes, flipped votes, failed audits, and plain old breakdowns
occurring on the growing number of electronic voting machines used
throughout America.
Under the guise of mandating accessibility for disabled voters, the
2002 Help America Vote Act (HAVA) is forcing a wholesale shift in how
our votes are cast and counted -- just in time for the 2006 elections.
Vendors are leveraging HAVA's disability requirements and tight
timeline to sell the far costlier and less secure OR reliable
touchscreen DREs (Direct Record Electronic machines) to county
elections officials around the country, when there are better options
already in use and available.
You'll see government reports, experts, and governors on both sides of
the aisle condemning touchscreen DREs. The GAO, the bi-partisan
Carter/Baker Commission, and every independent security test to date
has found touchscreen DREs to be insecure, exorbitantly expensive, and
unreliable. They join a growing number of citizens who are demanding
paper ballots, optically scanned or hand counted, as the only way to
allow for meaningful audits and recounts. This film highlights a deep
history of success in past voting rights movements, and lays out next
steps for those inspired to join the new movement now underway to
restore basic accountability and integrity to American elections.
Featuring Georgia Rep. Cynthia McKinney, Ohio Rep. Stephanie
Tubb-Jones, California Rep. Lynn Woolsey, United Farm Workers
Co-Founder Dolores Huerta, Maryland's Republican Gov. Bob Ehrlich, New
Mexico's Democratic Gov. Bill Richardson, and VoterAction.org's Lowell
Finley, Esq., Election Law Attorney.

May 24th: "Electile Dysfunction": Take Back Your Right to Vote
explores the reasons why elections
have spiraled into their current disastrous state, and what you can do
to reclaim your vote and to promote changes to rid our country of vote
fraud. See what parts the media, corporations, judges, and the
political parties play in the election game, and actions you can take
to encourage these folks to work in the interests of the American
people and democracy instead of self-interest, corruption, and greed.
We end the film with a plea for our lawmakers to create a
Constitutional Amendment guaranteeing the right to vote for every
citizen, that their Vote be COUNTED, and for those that would defraud
any voter be held legally accountable. And you can help.

May 31st: "American Dictators": Documenting the Staged Election of
2004 by Alex Jones http://www.infowars.com/dictators.htm
90+ minute expose chronicling the degeneration of America's political
process. Alex Jones rips away layer after layer of the false
left-right paradigm and finally reveals the 2004 election for what it
is -- stage managed theater that would make Shakespeare proud.
Topics detail: that Bush and Kerry are closely related on both sides
of their families, that Bush the Skull and Kerry the Bone have both
sworn an oath to a secret society with deep connections to organized
crime, intelligence agencies, and the occult; that the "Order of
Death" known as Skull and Bones has its members at the highest levels
of every sector of the US economy -- from banking to government; while
Bush and Kerry spout different rhetoric their actions are almost
identical.
Alex Jones takes you to the front lines of the fight against the
expanding Police State: the new Super-Patriot Act and National ID
Card, as well as some of the newest and most shocking revelations
surrounding the September 11th cover-up. American Dictators is a
must-see for anyone who wants to know the truth concerning how the
global elite has hijacked both parties and is giving the American
people a false choice. By exposing this rigged game where the global
mob owns all the horses, American Dictators is able to unlock minds so
then freedom loving individuals can decipher the mainstream media
propaganda for what it is: a Military-Industrial complex operation.

Film Synopsis

This program illuminates the emergence of ecological design, and the
integration of nature, technology and humanity in the 20th century. Featured
are the ideas and prototypes of pioneering designers in the development of
sustainable architecture, cities, energy systems,
transport and industry.

Beginning in the 1920’s with the work of R. Buckminster Fuller, moving
through the 1960’s and ending on the doorstep of the 21st century, this film
follows the evolution of ecological design from the visions of a few
independent thinkers to the powerful movement of today.

As each designer leads us on a deep exploration of their design process,
they reveal their methods, metaphors, inspirations and
commitment to a vision of a desirable future. Their prototypes range from
micro-organism to mega-structure, but amidst the diversity, some common
themes arise:

- Designing with Nature
- Regenerative Design
- Creating New Forms of Wealth
- The Biosphere and Technosphere

The GIF Show, an exhibition opening May 3rd, at San Francisco's Rx Gallery, takes the pulse of what some net surfers call 'GIF Luv,' a recent frenzy of file-sharing and creative muscle-flexing associated with GIFs (Graphic Interchange Format files). Curated by Marisa Olson in a West Coast Rhizome collaboration with Rx, the show presents GIFs and GIF-based videos, prints, readymades, and sculptures by a range of artists, including Cory Arcangel, Peter Baldes, Michael Bell-Smith, Jimpunk, Olia Lialina, Abe Linkoln, Guthrie Lonergan, Lovid, Tom Moody, Paper Rad, Paul Slocum, and Matt Smear (aka 893/umeancompetitor). GIFs have a rich cultural life on the internet and each bears specific stylistic markers. From Myspace graphics to advertising images to porn banners, and beyond, GIFs overcome resolution and bandwidth challenges in their pervasive population of the net. Animated GIFs, in particular, have evolved from a largely cinematic, cell-based form of art practice, and ! have more recently been incorporated in music videos and employed as stimulating narrative devices on blogs. From the flashy to the minimal, the sonic to the silent, the artists in The GIF Show demonstrate the diversity of forms to be found in GIFs, and many of them comment on the broader social life of these image files.
The opening is sure to be just as lively, with music by Eats Tapes and visuals by Nate Boyce. Spread the luv! - http://Rhizome.org http://upcoming.org/event/74861

# BURNERS WITHOUT BORDERS: OCEAN BEACH CLEANUP 5/5/06 4pm till past dark

The camp is packed and the volunteers have gone home, but the story of Burners Without Borders is just beginning...and it's headed to San Francisco. Not content to fade into memory as one of the most creative disaster relief organizations ever to will itself into existence, Burners Without Borders barely stops to catch its collective breath before it undertakes its next civic service adventure: a community cleanup project at San Francisco's Ocean Beach.

Faced with the potential ban on beach bonfires at Ocean Beach, right now seems a perfect moment to declare an intention to be a part of a solution, and to show the "other" playa a little love. Be a Burner Without Borders on Friday, May 5th, 4pm till past dark at San Francisco's Ocean Beach for a LNT-style beach clean up and public education project on the proposed ban on beach burns in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Meet at north end of parking lot opposite where Fulton meets the ocean. Together, we'll make the beach beautiful (bring your cleanup tools if you have them - trash bags, buckets, magnet rakes, etc.), collect letters opposing the beach burn ban, and then enjoy a sunset potluck dinner (don't forget to bring a little something to share--rumor is Chef Spoon may make New Orleans-style beignets on the spot ). Then, naturally, we'll make a little fire when the sun goes down--some nail free wood would also be welcome. We'll post more details, but mark your calendars now, and start looking for a good pointy stick for marshmallows...

DETAILS: the Fringe, & Sunset Promotions, the team that has brought you such epic parties as “Freaksgiving” and the “Icebreakers Ball” team up again for a twisted take on the annual Mexican holiday – it’s “FREQO DE MAYO”. Featuring an all-star cast of future world breaks, latin, house and hip hop including Bassnectar (DJ Lorin), and some of the local future-world music crop including Soulsalaam (Future Juju), Vanka (Misturada), DJ Sep (Dubmission), and Jaio & Kevin Wardell (Space Cowboys). The more modern funky breakbeats will be provided by underground legends, El Papa Chango (El Circo), Mozaic (Moon Tribe) plus Fringe residents Motion Potion, Mycho, Cocoa, Victor Vega and Billete.

For the last decade, Lorin Ashton has helped develop the North American underground dance music scene. From touring full time as a DJ (an average of 125 shows per year), to his production & remixing under the alias Bassnectar, he has ammassed a dedicated fan base, crossing over from hip hop to electronica to breakbeat to ragga/dub to the jam band scene and the greater Burningman Scene. In January, Bassnectar was voted the #1 DJ in the Bay Area in the prestigious “Nitevibe Dreamteam” poll ( http://www.nitevibe.com ).

DJ, producer and percussionist, Soulsalaam (soulsalaam.com) has thrilled audiences from the Bay to Brazil with his future-world breaks, and live conga beats. Able to create, play the freshest African, Brazillian and Latin styles, then augment them with live percussion, Soulsalaam always pushes a dancelub over the edge. The same dynamic is brought by Space Cowboys duo Jaio & Kevin Wardell, who rock Latin beats with live percussion. For that matter, no one has explored the future of latin music in the Bay Area more than DJ Vanka whose long-running Thursday night Misturada party is a fixture in the local world music scene. Ditto DJ Sep, a woman capable of breaking artists singlehandedly through her Dubmission party and her KPFA radio show “Off the Beaten Path”

Adding to the world music mix will be some of the underground’s hottest future-music talent. El Papa Chango (El Circo) is best known for mashing Latin beats and breakbeat house at the performance-art drenched El Circo events. Motion Potion, “the Swiss army DJ” is best known for his embrace of the local funk scene, but recently has been seen performing live with Parliament-Funkadelic and the Mutaytor., Mycho Cocoa has garnered a superb reputation as a top beatslinger in styles as diverse as Arabic breaks, and soulful house. Like the rest of the Fringe DJ’s Victor Vega’s tastes run the gamut, but the NYC native is best known for his superior skills with Latin house and breakbeats. A crusader trying to bring underground hip hop back to underground parties, Billete is a member of the Fringe collective. Kaya (the Fringe): Beginning with homegrown imagery, Kaia has evolved her visual palette with STS9, Anon Salon, Moontribe, Traveling Corn, and other independent productions to bring an E-motion-al graphic eXplosion to an Intelligent Dance party near you.

The sudden effects of perpetual oil shortage are likely to strike within the next three years. Are we prepared? Sponsored by Culture Change, the DC PetroCollapse Conference will present the facts behind the hype about Peak Oil, explore the root factors of our present "oil-addicted" condition, and envision the strategies that we need to bypass unhelpful institutional barriers and achieve post-Peak Oil economic sustainability.

Experts on peak oil and the geological depletion of oil reserves, and advocates for small-scale agriculture, alternative energy and local sustainable economics will discuss "petrocollapse," the imminent failure of the petroleum infrastructure to continue to provide the myriad goods and services that our consumer economy has grown accustomed to. Multimedia presentations and multiple films will demonstrate solutions to the audience.

# ADORNO Gallery Sessions "The Avant-Garde and Beyond"
Sat May 6th 7pm FREE

The ADORNO Ensemble will host a podcast show to be lead by radio host
and writer Todd Spencer. Spencer has been widely heard on NPR's
Living on Earth and the California Report, and is contributer to
Salon.com and Rollingstones.com. The May 6th show, "The Avant-garde
and Beyond" will be a live performance by ADORNO with an artist talk
on the European Avant-garde music and its many departures. The
program will feature a variety of music from the European avant-
garde composer Arnold Schoenberg to the Blues style of American
composer Derek Bermel and the Peruvian-influenced music of composer
Gabriela Lena Frank. As special guest, Ms. Frank will join ADORNO and
Spencer to talk about her extensive work in blending Peruvian
traditional music with western composition. Frank's current work
includes collaborations with renowned artists such as Yo-Yo Ma and
the Silk Road Project, the Kronos Quartet, and the Chamber Music
Society at Lincoln Center.

The show will discuss the varying degrees of diversions from the
avant-garde style and what composers are discovering as their
inspiration in the 21st century. Audiences attending the live concert
at Varnish can join in on the discussions with the artists as well as
engage with other listeners. For those that can not attend, the
concert will be recorded live to be hosted as a podcast on ADORNO's
website, where people locally and world-wide can listen and post
messages relating to the show.

Additionally, Varnish is also celebrating its 3rd anniversary with
their exhibit "3 to the 3rd". An artist from the gallery will also
join in on the show's discussion. As always, ADORNO's Gallery
Sessions are FREE.
