In the interests of national security, the federal government filed a motion, to dismiss the electronic frontier foundations class action law suit against AT&T. The electronic civil rights group alleges AT&T broke the federal telecom act and electronic communications privacy act, for giving the Bush administration the calling records of millions of AT&T’s clients. But Friday the us federal government filed a statement saying it would intervene to seek dismissal of the suit and assert its military and state secrets privelege to withhold calling records. The Electronic Frontier Foundation has vowed to viroriously fight the motion. This isn’t the first time the Bush Administration has exerted it’s presidential powers. The boston globe has reported that President Bush has used presidential powers to disobey an estimated 750 laws.
A hearing on the government's motion to dismiss the AT&T law-suit is scheduled for May 17th.
