May 1st Una Dia Sin Immigrantes/A Day Without Immigrants
May 1st marks the national day of boycott against HR4437 and all unjust immigration laws. In sacramento CAUIL is organizing a MayDay march from Southside park at 10 am. Leave work, leave school and don't buy anything and come stand up for the rights of all workers!
Campaign Against Unjust Immigration Laws (CAUIL)
Is a grassroots organization composed of local community activists and high school and university students working to combat HR4437 and other proposed immigration bills that aim at criminalizing immigrants in this country. Our focus is education and direct action.
On March 25th we formed an anti HR4437 contingent that participated in the Sacramento Cesar Chavez march. From there we have organized several workshops about HR4437, senate immigration bill, know your rights and legal observer trainings.
On April 10th we organized the rally at Southside Park with a march to the federal building.
On may 1st, 2006 we will be holding another march to the federal building and a rally/vigil at Southside Park starting at 10 am.
The vigil will be dedicated to all immigrants who have died trying to cross the border and Anthony Soltero the 8th grader who organized a walkout and then was threatened by school administrators with 3 years in prison.
You are invited to join this grassroots movement for immigrant rights.
On May 1st we are asking that you:
Dont go to work,
Dont go to school,
Dont buy anything,
And that you join the movement at Southside Park on May 1st at 10am for a rally and march.
We are also asking for money donations to sustain this movement. Campaign Against Unjust Immigration Laws (CAUIL) believes in direct action such as rallies and marches, but will also continue facilitating workshops to students and community members who are interested in learning more about the immigration bills and about what their rights are to protest.
To help sustain this grassroots movement you can donate money to CAUIL by writing a check to the Zapatista Solidarity Coalition and in the memo portion writing attention CAUIL.
CAUIL is also looking for volunteers to help organize the may 1st march and continue the community workshops.
To find out how you can get involved or to donate money to the campaign please call the Zapatista Solidarity Coalition at 916-443-3424 or e-mail zapa [at] zsc.org
