On April 22nd 2006 from 2-4pm the National Socialist Movement (NSM) will hold its national rally at the Capital Building in Lansing, MI. The NSM are neo-nazis who call themselves "America's Nazi Party" and call for the eradication of "inferior" races. A coalition of community organizations, campus groups and community members has come together to form the Lansing Coalition Against Nazis (LCAN) in response to the Nazis attempts to organize and recruit. LCAN is calling for a visible and vocal demonstration to counter the NSM's message of hate. Please join the march and rally beginning at 12:30pm on Saturday April 22nd, 2006.

Call to Action Against National Neo-Nazi Rally in Lansing, Michigan:

Although some people say that ignoring the Nazis is the best way to oppose them, we know from experience that ignoring a problem never makes it go away. Some people say that the NSM is just a fringe group but their websites: nsm88.com and overthrow.com get over 9,000 hits a day.

If hate groups do not encounter opposition to their activities in a community, they'll take that to mean no one is willing to stand against them. Not directly opposing the Nazis isolates the people they target - people of color, immigrants, religious or ethnic minorities, lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender people, the disabled, womyn, etc. - making these communities feel like no one will support them. Because we recognize the struggles of these targeted groups of people and do not wish to ignore them, LCAN supports a visible and vocal counter-demonstration to the Nazi rally on April 22.

Other opponents of counter demonstrating say the Nazis should be allowed to speak because of the constitutional right to free speech. We say that giving racists and other bigots "free speech" silences the voices of entire groups of people through intimidation. We say that it is not just free speech because racist propaganda leads to racist violence.

yeah - a few months ago there were reports circulating on craigslist that National socialists would be massing and parading by the Space needle and also in Olympia. It seemed funny, because it sounded like a big hoax, and the reports kept changing announcing that they were at McDonald's or Wendy's or had cancelled one of the two cities. But sure enough, about 15 nazis showed up in Olympia, and a couple in Seattle (plus some people who seemed to be looking at the event but were disappointed in the low number so they slithered away). They vowed to reamass in June.

LANSING COSTUMISTS CARRYINGS-ON

A small bunch, costumed as a World-War-II dictator, is appearing at the Michigan
State Capitol at Lansing, using, alas, the law that Nationalists secured for police-protection.
The event, which claims to be "opposed to immigration," seems designed to:

1. Propagate the idea that anyone against immigration is part of a World-War-II-dictator cult.


2. Cast anti-immigration elements as sterile, insofar as the "group" lost a court-case to prevent
police predominance.


3. Nudge anti-immigration elements in the direction of unstable and criminal types, in that
the honcho of the gathering is reported to have a lengthy criminal and mental-hospital record.


4. Ward the public away from opposition to immigration by creating the impression that
anyone so inclined is either ridiculous or crazy.

The images portrayed so far included extremely obese figures, some with facial hair and
horribly mutilated bodies, more of a mockery of pre-World-War-II anti-Communists, who
sought for their bodies, as well as society, to be elevated and ideal.

The tone appears to be that the local Reds are "overpowering" the "measley" gathering and
that the Mayor and others are using the occasion to promote "diversity" (Communism).
News reports are lambasting "groups like these," clearly trying to lump patriotic and
pro-majority forces in with this particular bunch.

What for an encore?

One of the costumed individuals told the news media that "we will close the border."
The same one had said, beforehand, that he would not rally behind a police fence, but he
wound up caged, anyhow. He, also, said that he would defeat police in court. Wrong again.
And, he claimed, at one point, that he would disrupt a "diversity" rally, which he never did.

The exaggeration, boasting and eventual downfall (the "local leader" has already told the
news media that he is not involved, but "loves everybody," instead) reminds of Matt Hale,
who bragged of having "80,000" members, but was exposed to have only a handful, most
of whom turned out to be FBI-informants or mental-patients.

On the other hand, opponents of immigration (who should be intelligent enough to see
through it all) should be in a good position to turn our way, now, provided that we achieve
a high enough profile and make sure that we come across as winners, not winers.

Two people are reportedly arrested, at this point, in Lansing, and the costumists are
restricted by a judge to having no flag-poles, no sticks for signs and no contact with anyone,
other than themselves, the number of which is being reported as up to seventy-five (with
opponents at about five-hundred).
