ASPECT Gallery puts the spot light on Ray Lobato’s new series of work, a whimsical balancing act depicted on wood with ink, paint, stain, foil and glitter. Dimension and chaos ebb and flow within each piece eventually revealing a balance between debauchery and peacefulness. These works seem to identify the beauty surrounding life’s quagmire of complications then comes right back again and again to reveal a plausible reality. Lobato’s outlines create stark dimension changes that explore the soft core that lies beneath all things fearful, harmonic solutions to our clamoring for satisfaction. At first chaotic, then playful, the message concludes as serious and calming. Michael Szabo’s metal sculpture plays to Lobato’s longing for harmony with his pure and powerful shapes. Cement Ink blots, textured metal vases, hovering cement and metal entities and metal water sculptures grace the floor.
