PEACE AND FREEDOM PARTY ENDORSES MAYDAY RALLIES AND STRIKE
April 3, 2006. The Peace and Freedom Party has endorsed the immigrants rights rallies and strike planned for May 1, 2006, announces State Chair Kevin Akin. The party's California State Central Committee unanimously adopted the endorsement Sunday at a meeting in Los Angeles. "We are proud to be the first party in California to adopt a formal endorsement of this important and exciting movement to defend immigrant workers," says Akin.
Akin reports that Peace and Freedom Party activists and candidates will be helping organize as well as attending some of the rallies scheduled for Mayday. "We strongly oppose the attempts by reactionary politicians to make the undocumented into felons, and their efforts to blame the most powerless people in our society for the problems caused by the rich and powerful."
The Peace and Freedom Party has 28 candidates for state and federal office on the ballot in California in the 2006 elections. Akin is the party's candidate for Congress in the 44th District in Riverside and Orange Counties. "Our candidates seek to speak for those who produce everything and control nothing," says Akin. "We want working people to take the power away from the corrupt corporate rich. We need to stop this brutal useless war, and push hard for the changes needed to improve the lives of working people."
