Will SF Unitarian-Universalists elect queer pastor?
To the San Francisco Bay Times:
At the historic First Unitarian-Universalist Society of San Francisco,
the ministerial search committee has unanimously nominated Rev. Gregory L. Stewart.
This queer man, and his male partner of 25 years, live near Reno,
with their five African-American kids. Currently Stewart serves the
U-U Fellowship of Northern Nevada.
During the first nine days of April, the candidate will meet many members and groups
within SF's intentionally diverse congregation, including pagans, Buddhists, et alii.
Tho there are members of all genders and orientations, the majority appear to be
straight, white, and highly educated.
On April 9, members will vote on whether to "call" him as their senior minister.
Congregational democracy is an old tradition in this ultra-liberal religion,
which descends from Puritans who colonized Massachusetts in the 1600s.
