Student Immigration Demonstrations Continue
Hundreds Of High School Students Protest Tuesday
SALINAS, Calif. -- For the second day in a row, hundreds of high school students across the Central Coast are walking out of school and demonstrating against immigration reform legislation currently being debated in Congress.
An estimated 300 students from several high schools are marching the streets of Salinas. Action News has received reports of violent activity -- bottles and rocks being thrown at passing cars -- while police work to keep the marching students from interfering with traffic.
There are also reports of students demonstrating in Hollister; and in Watson, students walking out of Watsonville High School and Pajaro Valley High School are being met with police squads in riot gear according to Action News reporter Phil Gomez who is on the scene.
Gomez also reported that during the noon hour students were crossing Highway 1 in Watsonville and forcing traffic to stop.
